so, remember my 'friends dating your ex' thread?

yeah, turns out I don't like it.

confused

For as much as I thought I really don't care... I really hate that it turns out I do.
It was her birthday tonight. We all met at one of my favorite places in the city to have drinks and whatnot. I ended up leaving before the night was over cause I couldn't bring myself to go with her and her new boyfriend (my ex) to go out dancing together.

It's WEIRD, I tell you. WEIRD. I don't like it. One bit.

harrumph.

I figured out that I don't think he realized we are as good of friends as we are cause I was all trying to make nice and he was scared to talk to me.

I suppose it all depends on how close you have been with someone. When I was younger I was all drama about my exes moving on, even if I had moved on myself. It was all very selfish of me.

Also it depends on what kind of state you're in. Right now I would even be able to attend my 2nd bf's wedding, if only he had a relationship. He just had two major relationships and the first one was WEIRD.
I found myself being jealous, even while realising I did not want him back at ALL. In the end I realised I was scared it would fuck up what we tried hard to establish; a friendship beyond loving eachother in the past.
Indeed, this was the case. His new bf was very jealous and me ex made the decision to hardly see me anymore. That was his choice and even though it kinda hurt the friendship, it totaaly helped me realise I am SO totally over him.

So, I suppose it all depends on each different case.

Cars, if you are jealous you should try to establish WHY. If THEY are all weird, then off with them; good luck and have a nice life.
But if you realise it is partly cuz YOU been weirded out by it, try to rise above that feeling.
Or try to pick up a hot one night stand to make you feel better. Always works for me.
cool

PS, that 2nd ex bf of mine; his relation broke up after he realised what an utter cunt he was, distantiating himself from his best friends for something totally not worth it. It's one of those things love does to ya.

Right now, we're back at being best friends and the experience made our friendship stronger. I helped him get over his latest attempt at a relationship. And even without comfort sex!

I love best friends like that. I mean, we still sound like a married couple at times, hehehe. We bicker and we just have to look at eachother to know what the other thinks.

Were Anx and cborgman there? eek

Taint is everywhere!

Seriously, sorry it was so uncomfortable.....I've been in that situation before and really have no good suggestions for dealing with it....

You were kind and nice to him, and that is all that can be expected. Perhaps as time goes by it will be easier. Unfortunatley for him, he was unable to draw from internal strength and give you the same in return. He obviously feels 'guilty' (for lack of a better word) about it.

Move on.....

Awwww. I don't remember that thread Carrie.

I'm sorry. sad

I think even though 'we' have the BEST of intentions sometimes, it's STILL really really hard to actually go along.

It's great that you even CONSIDER hanging out with them, and probably with more time, you WILL be able to hang out regularly.

sad It's a sucky situation. I'm sorry. hug

I wouldn't necessarily attribute his inability to be "social" to guilt...contrary to popular belief, men are rather intuned to social settings where one or more parties feels uncomfortable...and that was definitely one of those social settings...At least for me, I know how uncomfortable my wife gets if I run into a female acquaintance, much less an old flame or what have you....so hanging out with an ex, whose friend you happen to now date, had to be an omfg moment for him....I'm not defending HOW he reacted because I agree with you that he should have had the testicular fortitude to at least deal with the situation with some social grace, but I think I'd attribute it more to setting than to guilt.....

I didn't mention anything on the other thread you created about this because I didn't want to be a debbie downer on you.

I would have a SERIOUS problem if my friend went out with my ex.

I would have SERIOUS problems, had I had real feelings for him. I never really did, I was just being insecure last night. redface It was just awkward and I don't like feeling awkward.

ah well. No big deal.
