Sweeney Todd/Tim Burton - first photos Alright my fellow Sweeney Todd/Tim Burton and/or Johnny Depp fans and followers - the first photographs from the set of Burton's (currently filming) version of "Sweeney Todd" are finally circulating, showing Depp in costume as Sweeney.
"Attend the tale of Sweeney Todd. His skin was pale and his eye was odd. He shaved the faces of gentlemen Who never thereafter were heard of again. He trod a path that few have trod, Did Sweeney Todd, The demon barber of Fleet Street." The red eyes are interesting. The shock of grey hair is striking. Tim Burton never fails in regards to offering up visually fascinating characters. So what say you all?

Love love love Johnny Depp, but not so crazy about Sweeney Todd. I saw the Stephen Sondheim production when it was in New York last fall and didn't really like it. My guest hated it so much he left after intermission!
Probably won't see it in the theaters, but might check it out on DVD. The check. The string he dropped. The Mona Lisa. The musical notes taken out of a hat. The glass. The toy shotgun painting. The things he found. Therefore, everything seen–every object, that is, plus the process of looking at it–is a Duchamp.

Though I'm really interested to see what the mind of Tim Burton comes up with, I'm afraid its going to be missing the child like innocence that Burton usually injects into his films. What did you think of Sleepy Hollow, which was rather violent and gory in terms of a Tim Burton film yet still retained an obvious whimsical, fantastical element? Many of the more purist fans of Sweeney Todd are concerned that Burton will not do justice to the story of ST by not making it black enough. Myself, I'd be very interested to see Burton do a film that is less whimsy-more gritty, especially so his take on ST; however, I don't believe that will happen.

I looked it up on imdb to see who else is in the cast and it's going to be a musical, too? Not liking the idea of that at all. I don't mind musicals, but except for The Sound of Music, I'm not a fan of movie musicals. Can Johnny & Helen sing well enough to do a musical? The check. The string he dropped. The Mona Lisa. The musical notes taken out of a hat. The glass. The toy shotgun painting. The things he found. Therefore, everything seen–every object, that is, plus the process of looking at it–is a Duchamp.
