Nervous I'm sooo nervous. I'm taking the ASVAB test in the first week of April and I'm super bad at math. I was studying today and everytime I took the pretest for the math, it raped me bad! I'm nervous because if I dont get a high enough score, I only get to pick from a few jobs. If I get a higher score, I get a good amount of jobs to pick from. I hate math, I have always been at it. I dont want to be a failure....stupid math. I'm sad..ugh! MATH IS MY WORST ENEMY. Soul mate-One of two persons compatible with each other in disposition, point of view, or sensitivity.

Revise, revise, revise. There is nothing u cant achieve. it depends how bad u want it and how willing u are to work for it.

dont feel stupid though
we all process information differently, some people have a natural ability for maths others for written english, its all about the different parts of your brain we are better at using. maths is all about learning to think, one has to apply themselves to it 100% and can get confusing if you misunderstand the basic principles.... i have to take two modules of maths for my Masters degree, but prefer it over the x thousand word thesis i have to write. i recommend a private maths tutor... .. ok, let me answer this before folks try and turn this into yet another politcal thread to denounce US foreign policy or whatever.
I've takent he ASVAB. You must know Math and English Grammar. The ASVAB prep tests that you can by at any book store help. Also, there's a company that makes DVDs that you can by at Borders or Barnes And Nobles called "Standard Deviants" which have an Algebra 1 course. The math doesn't get anymore complicated than Algebra and a tiny bit of geometry. The hardest questions were related to word problems (if you study the word problems in the Asvab prep tests you'll pass this with flying colors) Know your English Grammar. There's a small section on mechanics (basically logic problems that show you spinning wheels and shit and you have to guess the next sequence). I bombed that sectino and it was my I scored like an 88 or something instead of in the 90's. If you score higher than 77, I think you can pretty much pick what career you want.. at least in the Air Force. Have you talked to a service person yet who offers an opposing point of view to mine or renegades? You may want to see what their complaints are about their experience. My time in wasn't all peachy, but I'm the type of person who makes the most of his situation if he can, so no regrets.

I am a vet so let me help you with this one. High scores are important but the military branches will stress applicants to pick the jobs that they need to fill. With me I scored high but the job I wanted was not available and had to pick some bullshit. If you are shooting for the Air Force then I suggest study hard. Marines and Navy work the dog shit out of you. Army does too but not to that extreme. Air Force once you pass basic and job training is easy as hell. Good luck, my dear! Ask Renegade20 too. I got pretty decent ASVAB scores, but what determines your choice of jobs is your individual functional areas scores....for example Clerical, Electrical, Communications/Electronics, Mechanical and so forth....the ASVAB questions, though just basic english and math, are asked in such a way that your answers fall into those categories (about 12 in all)...the average is whats called your General Technical score...or in military lingo, your GT score...anything over a 100 GT will get you a good cross-section of job areas to choose from....mine is 123, so thats how I ended up in communications...a lot of our satellite techs are in the 130 range...conversely, cooks and mechanics are generally in the upper 80s-90s range...
So when your recruiter tells you your score on the ASVAB, be sure to ask him what your overall GT score is, too...because as Shy pointed out, they will steer you towards jobs they need filled first....by proxy convincing you to choose something that they need filled.....ask them what your GT has to be to get your choice, because I'm sure its different across the board with the different services.....then really think about what you want to be doing on a daily basis for the next 3, 4, or 6 years (however long you enlist for).... so don't get wrapped around the axle about your line score (ASVAB result) and just do the best you can...but be sure to pester your recruiter about the GT score requirements and any other questions you have because you SHOULD be making him earn his money..... He was like a cock who thought the sun had risen to hear him crow.
