WTF is wrong with clown?
Why do so many people have fears of clowns?
I mean, they're here to make you laugh, entertain. I can understand people who don't like this kind of entertainment, but what's up with making this a fear?

i don't get it either. i have a friend who is DEATHLY afraid of clowns, to the point where she can't even look at a picture of one. i watched stephen king's It as a kid and I'm still not scared of them.

I don't know, clowns disturb me but not a lot. Mainly I think it's because it's more difficult to read their facial expressions with all the makeup. Much like people with too much plastic surgery or foundation on. They freak me out too.

I think the extreme fear of clowns is kind of deep (but that didn't stop me from being annoyed with an ex who suffered from this fear).

Here's my take on it, though I'm likely wrong:

Clowns are presented to children as trustworthy ambassadors of humor and goodwill.

But clowns hide behind makeup and costumes that conceal or obscure their true identities and, by extension, agendas.

Such a lack of directness suggests something sinister to some people, a covert evil borne out by the Pennywise character.
