Great anti racism advert!!!

As you know, the area I live in is very racist & I detest it. I saw a great advert today which you may have seen that I believe shows we've come a long way to accepting our differences but still have a long way to go.

Heres what the advert says:

(in an african american accent) 'Your blue when your cold, your red when your hot, green when your ill, orange when you've been in the sun...& you have the cheek to call me coloured?'

God bless

Lewis

It's interesting to me that "colored" is considered an inappropriate term, yet "person of color" seems to be considered very politically correct.

Uhh... what exactly is an "african american accent"?

I think the term "colored" is simply outdated, it's not so much an insult though (at least not to me) but I think it depends on how it is said and/or the intent behind the usage of the word.

My grandfather used to use the word "colored" all the time, but that's just because that is the word that he was accustomed to using when he was coming up. Interestingly enough, for historical purposes, the NAACP still hasn't changed it's name.

"colored" is just outdated and also I think it's about respecting what someone wants to be called. I don't find it racist as much as someone being suck.

Advert: Oh yeah. A great way to get people to stop being racist is to use a tone that encites argument. Why not have Tyson and Holyfield walk around beating up white people and telling them, "see! you bleed too!" Anyway. that whole "white people are more colored than black people" is a long standing joke from long long time ago.

Colored: Outdated in that sense that nobody really uses it anymore. I do remember the Real World New Orleans having a episode where psycho Melissa (what that her name?) had a problem with being refered to as colored. As always, it's all a matter of context. There are some situations where you can use it, there are some situations where you cannot. There are some people who will be out-right insulted, and others who will shrug it off. There is no manual that tells you when to and when not to use such terms, it's something you learn from experience.

Anyway, I'll think about never using colored as a term for black folk or people like myself when the NAACP changes their title.

Still it's nice to know, when our bodies wear out, we can get another

Good point. It all comes down 2 petty semantics and the whims of the people who determine what is "politically correct" nowadays.

I myself dislike the term "people of color" because it suggests that whites have no color, thereby alienating us from Asians, blacks, and Hispanics.

Even when you mean well...things we say sometimes
come out wrong...
"African-American" accent is the way I'm speaking now.

That is written in more of an ethnic
dialect...but I know what you are saying,
You have a good heart...

So hard to get along when things have been so bad
for so long..but it starts with the "man in the mirror".
I'm sure you see a good person in your reflection.
