...before I get married. Now, initially, all I wanted was a trip to the courthouse. We'll be just as married without all the shindiggeries, but this is slowly being blown out of proportion by my fiance and his mother. My fiance knows my disdain with a big ceremony, but I've kept quiet because it's his wedding, too.

His mother takes his small ideas and runs with them, and now I'm left with a guest list, a bunch of food and alcoholic beverage and decorations and colors to think about and flowers. She thinks it's important to give me a big wedding because she has no idea that I couldn't care less! And I really can't say anything about it at this point.

Anyway, it's going to be outside if it doesn't rain, so I have been trying to find some shoes.

My question is this: is it too Kentucky if I don't wear shoes if it's outdoors? Cos I'm just not finding anything I like and I'm not going to risk my life walking through a yard in high heels, and all the flats I've found are hideous or they don't match my off-white dress.

If your dress is long enough, just get some ballet flats.

You're making me mad with all this talk about the mother in law ALREADY nosing her opinions into your life.

There is nothing worse than mother in laws.

It's not like that, really. Just about the wedding. She is probably the greatest mother-in-law I could ask for. Alex is also her youngest kid, so she probably wants to go out with a bang, so to speak.

My dress is only cut to just below the knees, really.

First off - do what you want. Can't be simpler than that.

Secondly, I don't like the idea of a barefoot bride, but that's just me.

A girlfriend of mine had a similar problem and hers was a more casual wedding and she found some white flipflops that weren't terribly trashy and we added little white silk flowers to the straps with a glue-gun and voila! Pretty, yet casual, comfortable footwear.
