I'm a fucking idiot. Please come and note your agreement!

I spent the night with my recently-ex-girlfriend last night.

And of COURSE it was wonderful, and so I completely handed over my dignity and self-respect in a heart-shaped box and said, "here, take it, whatever you want, I just want YOU!"

sigh

And I do want her. And I think maybe there were a lot of misunderstandings behind breaking up, and that we cleared a lot of them up last night (before the torrid lovemaking, of course). But. . . shit. . .I still feel like a damned idiot.

Tell me, people. Has anybody, EVER, in the HISTORY OF HUMANITY, broken up with somebody, gotten back together, and had it turn out to be a long-term happy relationship? Ever? Because I've never heard of such a thing.

I'm starting to feel too old to be a fool for love. neutral

Melissa, if you're an idiot, that makes me George W. Bush.

OF COURSE it's possible. I absolutely hate to think you migh be raking yourself over broken glass a second time with her, but if it's true, yes--it's not impossible. I know many happy people with lifelong situations who have had rough beginnings. Fuck, it's not easy, right?

heart I just hope she realizes who loves her. She's one incredibly lucky woman.

That's all well and good, but kind of a "fence-sitting" position in this case. Please either tell me I'm a fucking idiot, or tell me an uplifting story about some people you know who broke up, got back together, and lived happily ever after. Thanks. biggrin

you know what? just go with it.

it's win/win either way.

either this is a much needed storm in the relationship, or hopefully you learn a lesson from this incident and you'll be that much more experienced and strong and ready the next time you're this nuts for someone.

beating yourself up about it is just a time and energy waster. don't regret it.

there's nothing wrong with staying to fight for what u want, if u believe in it. i think there are degrees of breaking up -- u know when it's done. making an effort to get to the point where it is either somethnig wonderful or something that is definitely over is advisable.

hug

i love u, and u are not an idiot!

wave YES!

I was with my "ex" for 2 years, and then, being young and confused, and fighting a lot, we broke up. But we never really broke up, we were so close that we just couldnt stay away from each other. And Im not talking like getting drunk and ending up going home together, it was never like that. It was more just spending a lot of time together, and doing things the same way we always had.

Fast forward 2 years of being officially off, but unofficially on, and we are still the same. But closer, and stronger than ever. Just recently we've accepted that this is it, and we're officially on again. And very happy. So it can be done. rose

Its just when people play games with each other it messes it up. When we broke up and spent the night together, my friends were all like "what the hell are you doing, sleeping with your ex blah blah blah" but I just didnt get that, cause there was never, EVER, any drunkenness, or regrets, or using each other. We still loved each other, we just didnt think it would work out. My friends, were copying what everyone else says, and actually didnt have a f***ing clue.

I know a couple who dated in highschool, but broke up when they went to college. After several years apart, they realized that what they had was true love, and they got back together. They got married 3 years ago, and have a beautiful little girl. They're still madly in love.

If you believe in the relationship, don't let it go. But, make sure that you are being treated fairly during all of this. If you are the only one giving, then that's a problem. I wish you the best of luck! hug

nod You either waste more time in a relationship that's already proven it's a dead-end or let yourself get emotionally invested in something that was just a roll in the hay for her. nod

Fighting for what you truly want in your heart does not make you an idiot.
I feel if you turn your back and do not try to work it out then you will always wonder what if.

hug

No relationship is easy all of the time. Do what you feel in your heart is right and have no regrets.

Well. I hear ya, but it wasn't just a roll in the hay for her. But, yeah, I guess my fear comes from seeing lots of friends get back together with their exes and crash and burn again and again. . . bah.

I really don't wanna be back tomorrow, or two weeks, or two months from now going "doh!".

But. . . I guess time will tell.
