I worked really hard and made myself so sick that I ended up in the hospital to be able to buy Pat a ring,

It took him forever to get me to accept anything from him including flowers.
Hell I wouldnt even let him pay for me to see the doctor when I had a miscarriage last month.
and whether you ment that as a joke or not it honestly wasnt

Well honey, you clearly are not one of these whores who pinch their titties and staddle horse dong dildoes over this shit. There are exceptions to every rule and you are an exception!

Why can't both parties get a present for getting married? Maybe a set of engagement rings....

Why does it even need to be a ring? Why not a pair of matching puppies? Matching contributions to a favourite charity? A trip around the world for two? Equal contributions to a new house?

I thinking getting tattoos of/for a lover is a bit silly, but hell, why not? shrug

I see no reason the engagement signifier needs to be a ring in the first place.

I don't understand why a woman deserves to have a diamond before she marries a man. Can someone please explain this to me.

The man gives his woman an engagement ring which shows his seriousness of making her his wife. Then it's "official" that they intend to marry.

Personally, I'd rather have a ring that I find beautiful...and cost/size doesn't really have much to do with that.

I would have done it without a diamond, agreed, I mean. I like mine. Luckily my fiance got a sensible woman and he felt more inclined to give me one than I would have ever felt to demand or request I had one. All three rings has cost us just at $1k, and his ring is to be more envied than mine. He is positively itching to wear it, and I'm thinking about letting him even though we're not married yet.

Ah well. I don't know why women feel they need one first. There are much more important things to consider than a rock. I saw a barbie doll in the toy aisle a couple of days ago at K Mart, it was some wedding Barbie. Anyway, the wedding barby had a big sparkly dress with pink trim (naturally) and a humungous pink ring on her left hand. Took up most of her doll hand,in fact, and the box was labelled, "What every girl dreams of." Good to know we're bred from a young age to expect a giganormous rock on our fingers.
This one's for you.

I think matching wedding bands, say platinum and white gold, is nice. Screw the big engagement ring. Mon knows she'd never get a ring with a big stone stuck in it as she'd bash that sucker on something and it'd fall out.

if i wear my grandmother's diamond how is that a bribe? am i still materialistic if i wear it? confused
it would be very symbolic for me.

if i don't wear her diamond i still would like to wear one. because to me it represents the strength of a bond between two people. it's not about the size or how fuckin flawless (or not) it is. it is alllll about the symbolism. if i'm a greedy bitch for that then so be it

If both parties were serious and sincere
then this wouldnt be an issue. They already would be secure enough where each would know what they want for themselves and for their partner.

i don't either. i find this custom to be strange and unsettling. it's like the opposite of a dowry, a hold over from the bride-price days.

Meggy's an exception to everything biggrin . Honestly she hasn't even begun to tell everything she's been through.Everyone thinks she's lucky because she "hooked" Pat. Well, let me tell ya, she was looking for anybody but a musician, wanted the simple things in life. He's the lucky one to find her and had to work hard to get her to take anything, she loves him for himself not his fame or money..

Her "real" engagement ring is an almost 4 carat pink flawless heart shaped diamond. Pat keeps it in his vault because Meggy's afraid to wear it, mostly afraid she's gonna lose it but it's not safe to have something like that in our neighborhood. Her everyday ring has three princess cut diamonds in a simple setting. It's gorgeous too and he was over the moon because she wears it. He was afraid it would still be too much. She would have been happy with anything at all from him. Didn't have to be diamonds at all.

She's the best and that's all there is to that.

Well there is certainly no need to get defensive lol This thread is targeted at the greedy whores who would not marry a man without a diamond or a diamond of a certain size. Sounds like Meggy appreciates life and that is great. If she put a price on her love, well..... lol
