Does It Make You Nervous When You Have To Give Blood At The Doctor's Office?

Luckily, it has never bothered me, I don't have any fear of needles or blood. Good thing, because today when I had to give blood at the doctor's office, the nurse had to poke me three times before she could get any blood to come out. I wound up getting stuck in both arms, and all for just 2 little vials of blood. lol
RIP, mom. I will forever miss and love you.

I haven't given blood in decades. I don't like needles too much. But if I have to, I do.
I remember one time the nurse started playing with the needle in my arm. That was not a fun experience.

They can never find a vein when they draw my blood. I once got stuck six times in each arm. disbelief

I don't have a fear of needles though.

Ugh, I hate when they turn the needle slightly when it's in your arm. They did that to me the last time I donated blood for the Red Cross.

I have the same problem, I get told, "You have very small veins!" Getting stuck six times in each arm would not be fun. shake

oh my god, YES. i can't watch them do it or i freak out. boxed

shots are okay, because the needle isn't in your arm as long. it's especially bad when the nurse doesn't believe my insisting that the veins in my left arm are better and stabs my right arm tons trying to find one. bawl

giving blood to the red cross or something is totally out of the question for me. lol

Needles don't bother me. The fact that the nurse sometimes feels the need to literally grab hold of my arm disturbs me far more than the actual needle. falloff

I have donated blood like four times before so it's no big deal for me to have blood taken out at the doctor's.

lol I wish they'd just tell me to move my arm instead of attempting to move it themselves, because that makes me tense up. disbelief

Same here. nod I figure if I can donate a pint of blood, then a couple of vials at the doctor's office is not a big deal.

Not a big fan of needles but it doesn't get to me all that much. Watching the blood fill the tube is weird though - the way it just flows out, it's always strange to me. I guess I'm just not used to seeing real blood actually flow out lol

It does, right? It just pours/pumps out. It really makes it hit home how fast someone could bleed to death, especially w/ a major vein disbelief

Ouch! Those shots in the ass hurt. I've had shots back there for sinus infections too, and they are never fun. Funny story about the one time I got an ass shot, before giving it to me, the doctor said something like, "Every time you sit down, you'll remember me." lol

It doesn't bother me very much but they always have a hard time getting any blood from me. I'm stingy when it comes to blood work. lol
I have tiny veins that either roll away from the needle or collapse when the needle punctures them. So I always get stuck a few times before they get anything. I have a standing order for bloodwork every 6 weeks so I get stuck plenty, usually in the back of my hand but I've even had them take blood from my foot because they couldn't get it anywhere else. mad

just reading your initial post makes me feel slightly sick biggrin

about 5 weeks ago i went in for a full body check up and had
to let them drain off 12 (!) vials of blood.

but i always tell the nurse before she starts that i am quite
prone to fainting lol. and ask if she can tilt that chair so
that i'm lying a bit, facing the ceiling.

and then i'll just tell her "i'll be fine, really just don't
tell me what you're doing and talk to me about anything you'd
like"

that always works for me. i can simply concentrate on what is
being said and before i get all tingly it's done.

but this dumb b*tch just went "yeah well i hope you're not one
of those guys who gets sick in here. oh wait, i'm putting the
needle in right now. oh here we go, yup, first vial filling up"

and i'm like

"could you please not talk about that. just tell me anything
you can think of as long as it's nothing to do with this".

so she continues

"hey if you faint on me i'm gonna have to wake you up and we
will have to stick the needle in your other arm so stay with
me now"

confused

great, you moronic tit

she kept this up the whole time so by the 11th vial i was on
the verge of collaps, lol.

then when she was ready and i was gathering my senses, she's
like

omfg wait! is this a gell-vial? huh? i don't think it is!!
it should be a gell-vial.

ok, i'm gonna have to put the needle back in.

oh, no wait, it IS a gell-vial, haha.

by that time i was like "evil what the fuck is wrong with you, evil woman"

lol
and true love lives on lollipops and crisps

That's what happened to me yesterday, I wound up getting stuck several times because the nurse couldn't get the vein. Getting blood drawn from the back of your hand would hurt. I've never heard of them taking blood from your foot before, but I guess if there's no other choice, then what can they do?
