That time of year: Suggest budget hiking/backpacking gear Happy spring!
I'm craving some time alone in the woods. I'm broke. I've got nothing beyond basic hiking gear (with extremely basic 10-essentials-ish survival stuff). I think I'll want to take my (large) dog, so as much as a bivy sack sounds appealing, I'm going to want a 2-person tent. And. . . you know. . . everything else. I don't need to be a yuppie camper who has lots of fancy stuff. Just the basics. But among the basics, there are TONS of choices. What's your favorite stuff? What did you pay for it? Thank ya.

Always. I'm thinking of getting one of those thin self-inflating ones. I'm not going to be car camping most of the time, so I want stuff that's light. But, yeah, some minimal sleeping pad would be nice. oh noes, prince is gonna soo me!!1!

I've seen them. They're very cute. And I probably will, 'cause he's a big strong dog who can carry his own damned kibble. oh noes, prince is gonna soo me!!1!

i always think you have to divide the number of people suggestions on those tents in half. a two man tent is really only suitable for one person, let alone gear and a dog.
i have a six man tent and with a double air mattress on the floor there is enough room for gear and another person on a floor pad. (mind you, it's too heavy to haul around on your back) it cost $80 i think i would get stunk out of a little tent pretty fast with a dog...

Well, yeah, I'm gonna have to weigh yucky-weather comfort with what I have to carry. REI has tents set up in the store. I wonder if they would let me take my dog in to try them out. oh noes, prince is gonna soo me!!1!

Just be careful what you feed the dog the night before.....all night in a tent with a flatulent dog could be a bit brutal....
