Hussein's already capable of delivering biological and chemical warfare to Israel. Remember the scud missiles? Those weren't duds. Those were successful experiments. Next time they'll probably have something on them. But I still think we're going after Iraq because of oil. "Pray for the peace of Jerusalem."

Hey, wait a second, that's what Saddam said! You guys may be on to something. rolleyes What puzzles me is that we already have an abundance of cheap oil, or so it seems. So why start a war on that basis now? On other threads, the US is taken to task for having the cheapest petrol outside of Saudi Arabia itself! Which is it? Is OPEC oil too scare and expensive, or too cheap and plentiful? I'm having trouble keeping up.

As a matter of fact, it's more likely that Saddam himself invaded Kuwait "because of oil," than it is that we need his oil reserves. Ask Israel if they are fighting their Arab neighbors "because of oil."

Rather, to me, it seems we're posturing with Iraq because we were savagely attacked one year ago, and we're both FRIGHTENED and PISSED. We see Iraq as a rogue nation run by a despot who's willing to unleash weapons of mass destruction the next time he's constipated. We remain weary after the "sucker-punch" (for you boxing fans) last September by lunatics like Saddam Hussein.

From what I've read, the US really doesn't have much oil. Most of it's up in Alaska, and the cost to bring it down to the other states is too great to even consider it at this point. Anyone else know about this?

carrie, sis, if you read properly you would have noticed that the weapons saddam has are of NO DANGER for your country. if you say you wanna take saddam out, you have to consider that thousands of innocent civilians, children, women, elderly will die. and the political results are a whole other story.
this is my problem with your attitude: you dont mind any action of war as long as it doesnt affect your country. when 9/11 happened you were devastated! 9/11 happens every day, all over the world, and your country is having a big part in causing it. if you lived closer to iraq, you would have a whole different opinion about this. sometimes I have the feeling that many people here dont mind innoccent civilians dying... as long as they are not americans. you said before that you have a problem with my worldview. but I am the one screaming for peace. you are screaming for war, dont you see that? so who do you think is morally right?

well, one can never know! you wanted to send the marines to my crib today! wink
be happy, you ticked me off. I know you are very cool, but sometimes cool people come up with shit like that and actually mean it! look at nep, not that I'd consider her cool, but she says things sometimes that make sense, and then she just comes up with total nonsense. btw, I do NOT, NEVER compare you to neppy, but you know what I'm sayin...

I thought you'd be smarter than that soulpower!!!

Anyway, to be honest with you, I only read the first 3 lines of this and didn't finish it. I'm just not in the mood today. I've never really followed any of this until now and I'm getting frustrated. As soon as I start to believe one thing, something else comes out. It's really hard for me to distinguish who is right and who is wrong and what is the best thing to do. Or what to believe for that matter.

In any case, I think the whole thing sucks! We live in a beautiful world and it's too bad that we can't all enjoy it peacefully. Ah well.

Amen to your last sentence. The world is beautful, but humans are fucked up. Its as simple as that. Trust me, I dont have anything against America as its country, I spent many beautiful years there and I miss my friends. But the government is fucking up bigtime now. Many countries are fucked up, but they are not as powerful as the US. and when a powerful country abuses its power the effects of that abuse are much stronger. If you really wanna know whats up, whats happening, then read between the lines. I am fortunate enought to work in the media, so from within I can see better how easy it is to manipulate minds. If you wanna read some good essays, editorials and articles, go to zmag.org , you will get an idea about investigative journalism from all over the world.
peace and luv,
