An Officer and A Gentleman...

I never list this movie among my top 10 movies for some reason.
But the reality of the situation is that it's a great film. The director gives you just enough back story to help you understand Richard Gere's character "Mayo-naise" and his motivations and personality quirks.

The story takes you on a journey through basic training, and special trainig of a few individuals, and that aspect of the movie is the least interesting of the film in my opinion. What drives this story is seeing Mayo, who is conditioned through years of abuse and neglect, attempt to reconcile his past, and become a more open, loving, and kinder man than his father was. It's a story of love, loss, and redemption.

I like it. biggrin

Plus, the sluts in the movie are knock outs. sexy

I remember my parents kept not letting me watch this movie as a kid. I've never gotten through the whole thing.

It's no wear near as good as Pirates, but still a great movie. shrug

It's a movie with a simple message: Love lifts us up where we belong.

I watched this for the first time last year. I thought it was lame. I think it's one of those movies that don't translate well out of the 80's. If you saw it then, you might have a fond nostalgia for it or something, but if not, don't bother. bored

Maybe you'll love it. I don't know. Darin made me watch it and when it was over I just kept wondering why everyone thought it was such a fantastic movie. lol Sometimes I'm too jaded.
