He's a computer geek, and he doesn't mind that no one really looks at him in a sexual way (men or women). He says he doesn't want to act in any way that makes him feel uncomfortable. He doesn't hate effeminate men, but he feels like some of them are phony, and putting on an act. I haven't met all the people he has, but he could be right.
Then again, I know some guys who couldn't act straight if you paid them a million bucks! For a million bucks I could act straight! Wanna hear me sing?

Handclapsfingasnapz said: as far as the topic of this thread goes: i've never understood the term "straight-acting" the same way i don't understand some people use the term "being (insert racial background here)". it's like, why? exactly what is "straight-acting", i've known plenty of straight guys who have a feminine way about them and i've known tons of straight gals who are very masculine. and no, they weren't "hiding" anything. that's just how they are.
it's past ridiculous. WELL said. Nothing against anyone else in particular on this thread but it often has little to do with 'internalised homophobia' or being in denial. People are just people. As FunkMistress said: I think among gay men who still deal with a lot of internalized homophobia, it's probably very prevalent to attach high value to "acting straight." To many others, it's no fucking big deal either way and to each his own.
Interesting thread, Dan.
