To me, growing up gay as a teenager, I tried to keep away from anything that could be derived as effeminate, kind of gravitating towards 'straight acting'.
This was in the 80's. So it was frowned upon, straight acting gays; most wore eyeliner, had fancy haircuts and the works.
This meant I never got laid, as I hung with the ladies and the gay guys never considered me game.

In my case, this all changed when I got older. Now, to me it does not matter who I hang with. I would take drag queens into the Dutch Hell's Angels' Den and I am sure I would have fun. To me, I am who I am, even though I am still shocked when people tell me they KNEW from the start I am gay. Growing up, people would never believe me when I told them.

I think they know, while NOT being effeminate, because I am myself. Which means I stare at guys and am not afraid to tell people I just met that I think so-and-so is a hot guy, laying down the rules.

This way, they can make up their own minds about what they think of gay people. If they cannot handle it, I never notice or care; that is their problem.



Also, flirting is fliritng. I am always flattered when people flirt with me, be they male or female. What I cannot abide though is TOO forward people; guys that grab you in the ass or crotch on THOSE kind of gay bars will end up on the floor. With a bleeding/broken nose.

There is stigma to being effeminate but fuck those assholes. I'm a goddamned queer and proud of it!

Besides, us girly boys can get action from a lot of these straight acting fellas so why would I want to try and act a certain way if I can still get the goods? Might as well be myself

i forget exactly where i read it, but someone somewhere once really cracked me up by pointing out:

"if they really were straight-acting, they wouldn't have my cock in their mouth."

I know a lot gay men who consider themselves "straight acting" of course no one they know does.

as far as the topic of this thread goes: i've never understood the term "straight-acting" the same way i don't understand some people use the term "being (insert racial background here)". it's like, why? exactly what is "straight-acting", i've known plenty of straight guys who have a feminine way about them and i've known tons of straight gals who are very masculine. and no, they weren't "hiding" anything. that's just how they are.
