Keep your daughter's hair tied up!!! My little girl has long, thick, dark blonde hair. I have always tied up her hair when she goes to school, for fear of geting bugs in her hair.
Last night while we where watching TV, I noticed she was itching the back of her head again. The first time I caught her I asked her what was wrong. She said her rubber band was too tight. I took her in the bathroom under the bright light. OH MY GOODNESS!!!! Those things are huge, and gross. They where so hard to find. I had to shampoo her hair with this horrible smelling shampoo. It took me 3 hours to get this shit out of her hair!!! I had to check my head, my son's head and the dog. It was a mess. I called the school to inform them of this mess. All they said was "sorry, this is a part of being around other children" I figured the school would say something like that.....shitheads!!! If anyone has been through this and has any ideas on how to get rid of this fast, please post. Say it's just a dream...
U open up ur eyes and come 2 realize u simply imagined this So u lean over and give her a kiss Here on earth, here on earth, with u it's not so bad Here on earth, here on earth eye don't feel so sad Stay right here

Our oldest daughter a beautiful redhead caught them several times in primary school
with all the reading i did then ..then again a few yrs ago when a good friends daughter was also bothered by them often ... something about they smell and what they are attracted to . Some girls will get them and the next girl wont and that there is this incredible product from Aus. all natural, I ordered some for my friend and she said that after she started using it Codi never got lice again even though it was sometimes still in her classroom. I used a combination of chemical treatmenst and natural oils on Rhianna when she had them ... thats been 15 yrs ago though

i've watched my friend go through this with her daughters repeatedly the school didn't seem to take it seriously so one year they had repeated outbreaks. it's a lot of work to irradicate them all the bedding and stuffed animals and such. but i believe there is a timeline where they won't survive without a human host so you can bag a bunch of stuff up if you can't hot wash it all. their long thick hair is another matter my friend spent three hours every day going through her kids heads hair by hair! because if the shampoo misses a couple eggs you are back to square one. i'm sure google has lots of good info on how to deal with it.

Best Kept Secrets (BKS) is a non-commercial, 100% natural shampoo for the treatment of head lice. It really works! It is recommended by nurses and pediatricians. It is 100% effective. BKS works by smothering the head lice. Head lice breathe through ventricles in their waxy armor, which BKS penetrates. BKS is also effective on fleas for pets. It is completely safe and healthy. BKS is extremely inexpensive compared to ineffective toxic products like Nix or Rid. Other natural treatments such as tea tree oil, mayonnaise, etc. simply do not work. This product is unique, incredible, and it will truly end the nightmare of head lice infestation! BKS is effective even without lice-combing the hair. It kills the head lice, and it loosens the nits (eggs), which are then rinsed away, or easily combed out. Lice can only live and breed on the human head. Treatment with BKS will eliminate all infestation. It is not necessary to bag stuffed animals. The only treatment of your home that is recommended is to wash the bedding in hot water, run the pillows through a hot dryer for 20 minutes, and vacuum. Head lice infestation is becoming an epidemic in parts of our world. Either the lice are building up immunity to the poisonous commercial products, or the products just don’t work, except to cause harm to the scalp and hair. BKS is non-toxic, and will not cause any scalp or hair irritation. I started selling Best Kept Secrets locally in 1997. I discovered it when my oldest daughter was in kindergarten after spending $100 on over-the-counter treatments that didn’t work on she, her sister, or me, and after spending hours upon hours of lice-combing. BKS really works, and has ended the nightmare of head lice infestation for many families! There is no other product like it, and it is so easy to use.

My sister-in-law and her two kids got it from my sister-in-law's niece. They had to wash bedsheets and disinfect everything, and put goop on their hair to kill the lice. Yuck. RIP, mom. I will forever miss and love you.

Heat The hot dry air produced by standard hand-held hair dryers may suffice to kill lice and their eggs on a person's hair. Use great care if you try this method, as the heated air from these devices can also easily scald the hair and the scalp. No precise values (treatment time, temperature, and distance from hair dryer) are available with which to base an objective treatment protocol.
Heated curling irons, hair straighteners or similar devices may kill some lice and eggs, but may not safely be applied to hair nearest the skin where viable eggs are most abundant. A clothes dryer set a high heat or a hot pressing iron may effectively kill any lice or their eggs on pillowcases, sheets, nightclothes, towels and similar items that will not be damaged by this process. Combs, brushes, hats and other hair accessories in contact with an infested person should be washed in hot water each day to dislodge any lice or nits. http://www.hsph.harvard.e....html#Heat

Odd, the schools here always seem to send out some kind of a notice letting the parents know to check their kids. Maybe that's something you could suggest to the Principal or school nurse.
Some people put oils and other types of grooming products on their childrens scalps which I understand prevents them from going through this problem.

Another thing to remember.....Lice LOVE clean hair, the hair strand is easier to climb up when it's clean.....Try getting your family used to washing their hair every other day to eventually once or twice a week. It's better for your scalp too by washing it less. Just my 2 cents

Err... hate to say this cos I know a lot of people have put so much work into it, but human lice don't go for animals and vice versa. They're species specific and cannot survive for very long away from their host. Thus you really don't have to de-lice your animals if your children have lice or vice versa. Sorry if you didn't know... now, fleas on the other hand DO cross between species so those you need to watch for.
