i don't know what it means. Maybe it means that people love each other without seeing each other. Or maybe, because of the story with his mother, it means that love and death are intertwined.

Or maybe, because of the story with his mother, it means that love and death are intertwined. yeah, there's a lot of different things you can attach to it. yet doing that to this painting bugs me for some reason, i can't say why. found this quote of his on wikipedia- My painting is visible images which conceal nothing; they evoke mystery and, indeed, when one sees one of my pictures, one asks oneself this simple question, 'What does that mean?'. It does not mean anything, because mystery means nothing either, it is unknowable.

He painted in the dining room and packed up all his paints every night to clear up for supper.

This painting is actually much more interpretable than most of his others. Most of his others don't contain such pathos, if you could call it that.

They have an element of fantasy to them, but not the kind of fantasy that is tied to this world. Not the kind you could dream of and enter. They have an off-putting quality so that you can't actually enjoy them. Like they might fracture if you tried to believe in them.

ZombieKitten said: evenstar3 said: that is kinda weird he used to wear a suit to paint! Did he paint in the dining room because he couldn't afford a studio? Or was it part of his process and ritual to open up and close up his paints every day? I'm interested to know why he did that. And wearing a suit, maybe that put him in the mood, like he was playing his characters. He sounds like he might be a bit compulsive. Reminds me a bit of David Lynch.

He was just really proper, so definitely part of the process (I can really relate to this totally!) it is kind of nice to put a start and a stop time to your creative process. I bet it helped him sleep too.
