i love events where there is a nicely groomed track, no idiot cell-phone talking drivers alongside to pose a threat, and no cops to limit potential speed. i need to try and attend more events this year. Is there some organization for this sort of thing, or is it all local? I love my car. I'd love to make it go fast in a safe context. Vroom vroom. . . oh noes, prince is gonna soo me!!1!

Vroom vroom. . . there are a lot of autosports networks around. do a search and see what comes up for your area. they offer classes where some prize winning race car guy talks about momentum and velocity and how to steer into the curve, how to maximize speed without losing control. how to inflate your tires an extra ten pounds to maximize traction, etc. then you learn to actually drive the course. a 'course' can be anything from orange cones in a huge parking lot to a course at a club track where you pay a membership or a fee to get in and use what amounts to a private road where you can do what you want within limits. it's not like the Indy500, that is you aren't on the course at the same time as anyone else. you drive the course one by one so the challenge is getting the fastest time. some of the hard core folks build their own kit cars, others show up with flashy little sports cars of different models and brands. regular people drive their regular cars, no one ever tries anything in a van or an SUV or pickup, but smaller, compact cars are popular out there. it's a lot of fun and a nice adrenaline rush too. safe if you do it right. one event some guy drifted right off the course and smacked into a chain link fence. messed up his car pretty badly but that's rare. i'm just a beginner really, not very clued in. but imo it's a nice way to really get a feel for what your car can and will do in different circumstances.

Just under 120mph in my mother's Ford Fiesta on the straight stretches from Cheltenham to Cirencester. The road was bumpy though and the thing felt so unstable. Scared the crap out of myself actually so it was a one off thing. I did use to go about 90 all along that stretch of road and do the 23 miles from my house to my friend's house in just over 20 minutes though.

I ran a 40 yard dash today and had it electronically clocked at 4.78 seconds. This is incredibly disheartening considering that just a mear six years ago I ran a 4.6 on a regular basis. As far as cars go, I got to ride in a modified mustang on the Fontana Speedway a few years back and the car reached 180 MPH on the straight aways. Carpenters bend wood, fletchers bend arrows, wise men fashion themselves.
