Angelina Jolie Since Angelina started adopting kids from around the world, the first thing that jumped into my mind was Josephine Baker. Didn't she adopt a boy and girl from almost every country back in the '30s? I think she had 12 children before she died. After her death they all went to orphanages. Am I the only one isn't impressed by the adoption craze? It's a good thing, but I hope it's being done for the right reasons. Prince Rogers Nelson

It's either adoption or start some multi-racial bedhopping to get that United Colors of Benetton family, and that'd get her more bad publicity than the whole Brad and Jen deal ever did. Certain celebs that are jumping the adoption bandwagon seem a little sketchy in their motivation, but ol' Angie seems to be doing it from a genuine desire to do good. Kids in need are kids in need. I'm not going to stand in her way. "A Watcher scoffs at gravity!"

I think it's great. Check on the Spielberg's they have a large family too. We all should know that diversity makes for a rich tapestry, and we must understand that all the threads of the tapestry are equal in value no matter what their color. Maya Angelou

Josephine's children didn't go to orphanages when she died. As great as that sounded, she eventually couldn't afford them and had to split them up amongst family and friends. This was way before she died [Edited 3/16/07 16:43pm]

[Edited 3/16/07 16:43pm] In the Josephine Baker movie, I thought it said they all went to orphanages after she died. I have to watch it again. It was really good. Prince Rogers Nelson

I can't help but wonder how "real" the home she's creating for them will be. Some 10 or 15 years from now, will she have been a real mom to all these different children?
I'm skeptical about this celebrity adoption craze.

I'm skeptical about this celebrity adoption craze. You could ask the same of a celeb who has a whole herd of biological kids, too. "A Watcher scoffs at gravity!"

I'm skeptical about this celebrity adoption craze. You could ask the same of a celeb who has a whole herd of biological kids, too. or anyone who has like 8+ kids my grandma was 14 out of 15, and she said once her dad remembered her name and she cried with joy

I don't think there needs to be a cap on the number of kids a family has, but people who are going to start making Juniors should seriously consider how many they can support emotionally and not just financially. I'm not knocking Jolie's humanitarian work. But sometimes, her adoption streak resembles someone returning to a market looking for just the right cut of beef. And not to put too fine a point on it, but Little Jerome from Detroit or Edward from Appalachia could use good homes, too...
