I've never understood this. As long as I'm lifting it to actually piss, so it doesn't get on the seat, why do I have to make sure I put it back down when I'm done? Why do women get relieved of the responsibility of putting it down when they need to use it? It's a two way street in my eyes.

As long as it's clean, I don't care.

so far all you reasonable ladies on this thread are A OK in my book.

The toilet seat should always be properly closed afer each use - that means cover down as well. Only dirty fucks would keep it open so the bowl is in clear view.

in my upstairs bathroom ( which is mostly mine ) I always lower both the seat and the lid keeping the toilet closed up, that's my choice of how I do things

I do not insist that anyone else in my family do this in either bathroom though

I think the lid should be rested. However, the seat...I think of it the same way as I do a gentleman considerate to hold a door open and such for a lady. He will put the seat down for a lady as well, because he's being a kind gentleman.

That's not to say that if he doesn't he isn't a gentleman, but if he does, he's a nicer one.

I does kind of bother me, because the exposed underside of the seat makes the toilet seem more disgusting and germy than when the seat is down. I don't know why. It must be psychological. My man never leaves the seat up, but a houseguest we had staying with us ALWAYS did, and it bugged me everytime.
