HELP!I lost a Word document! :(

I sat here writing some damn retarded english paper. I saved it several times.

I printed it. Then I deleted it and closed Microsoft Word.

The I went 2 the printer and saw that the ink did not work properly and all the words in the middle of the page are washed out. sad I can only read like the first and last 3 words in each sentence. hammer mad

Naturally the thing won't let me access the document anymore since I deleted it. I thought maybe there should b a copy of it somehwre but I cannot do a search because I cannot FIND the search function on this computer. confuse

HELP! cry

The only thing I can think of off the top of my mind is to maybe reset your computer to another time by trying "System Restore". On the computer you worked on go to Start, Programs, Accessories, System Tools, System Restore. Then choose to "set your computer to an earlier time", maybe to a time yesterday. After you do that, go look for it where you had saved it. Hope that works.

Did you check your recycle bin? If you have the recycle bin turned off, then you're kind of screwed.

There is software on the market that can recover lost files, but that only works if you dont do anything on your computer after you accidentally delete the file. The more activity on your computer after deleting it, the less likely it can be recovered.

I don't think you have to import a file. It should just take your PC back in time and restore all things and setting that were deleted. confused

There should be a trialware download for UNDELETE 3.0. Fill in the registration stuff with bullshit, or fill it in properly if you wish. Download the free trial and get your file back. Then buy the software if you think you'd like to have it just in case.

Don't bother with the system restore utility - that mainly applies to things like the Windows registry - it won't restore your files that you've deleted.

If it isn't in your Recycle Bin, it may be in another Recycle Bin on a shared network drive. If you are in college you may have other drives mapped where you save your work etc (network servers) so you could check there. If you had saved it on a network folder like that, your college IT department might have tape backups. You never know.

Failing that you could look for the temporary save files that Word creates ... if you enable the "show hidden files" option in Windows (tell me what version of Windows you have and I can direct you) you might be able to find files in the same location that your document was, but they are temporary backup files.

That said, it might just be gone. There are tools such as Norton System Utilities (www.symantec.com) that allow you to undelete old files and recover deleted files - worth checking out. Talk to your IT department they may have a college policy on this etc.

I dont know what befuddle me more--the fact that [Name-calling deleted.--Matt] rags on me for "offtopic-personal" when shes the queen of it, or the fact that there are fools who help her in her plight when if it was someone else stating they had trouble with retrieving a paper, she'd be laughing at them raggin on them putting them down.

I'm also guessing it has something to do with the fact she's a [Flame deleted.--Matt], who would rather talk on the org than do her work. She wants attention from the people of the org.

Well if you would go to a college where they dont advertise on matchbook covers, you'd have a decent lab where there was "SOMEBODY", ANYBODY in there working on a computer who you could ask for help real quick. [Flame deleted.--Matt]
