Dad accused of stabbing 11-month-old son, throwing him out car window

at 19:53 on March 15, 2007, EST.

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - A man stabbed his 11-month-old son in the back, threw the boy out the car window with the kitchen knife stuck in his back and then drove away, police said Thursday.

"He was conscious, but the knife was buried all the way to the handle," said Speedway Detective Jim Thiele. The boy, Devon Chandler, was in stable condition at a hospital Thursday.

"To the amazement of the doctors and everyone else involved, (the knife) somehow managed to just miss the vital organs," Thiele said.

Police have enlisted the FBI's help in locating the father, 30-year-old Kevin Chandler, who was charged with attempted murder.

Police think Chandler and the boy's mother, Angela Limbrock, were arguing as they prepared to leave Limbrock's apartment on the west side of Indianapolis Wednesday night.

Limbrock handed Devon to Chandler so she could retrieve his car seat inside the home. As she left the car, she heard Chandler swear at the boy and turned around to see him throw Devon out of the car window, according to a police report. When Limbrock picked up her son, she saw a knife in his back, the report said.

She ran back to the home, where residents called for an ambulance.

"We're still trying to determine motive here, but at this point I have no reason to believe he did this to get back at the mother or anything," the detective said.

Chandler, who was sitting in the back seat along with a five-year-old boy, drove away. The boy was able to get out of the car before Chandler drove off, Thiele said.

Chandler has been arrested several times for crimes including domestic battery, auto theft and driving while intoxicated, records show. He served time in an Indiana prison for cocaine possession and carrying an unlicensed firearm near school property, records show.

In 2005, police arrested Chandler after he allegedly kicked Limbrock in the head and body.

OMG, I just can't handle this world - it's unimaginable disbelief

And just my 2 cents on these stories - they're news like any other article people choose to post. Yes, they're sad but there's sad shit in the world. I have no problem w/ these articles, especially this one b/c I hadn't heard about it in the news. Nobody's being forced to click the thread...

Yea, but don't we have to read GROSS thread titles without any choice too? I find it more offensive to be disgusted by someone who just feels like being gross than a headline from the newspaper shrug But I don't ask that people not post the stuff that turns my stomach, I simply scroll past it. Again, just saying...

Maybe there's should be an actual NEWS forum that doesn't relate to P, I dunno...

I'm not saying the "acts" in question are equal at all, it's our own personal responses to them that I'm talking about. Should we also ban threads about people dying b/c it bums people out? What are we saying? confused

it's not about banning, it's about showing a little sensitivity. I am not asking for the thread to be pulled, but maybe presented more in a way that lets us choose whether or not we want to read about this. sad

The real problem here is that this man has been arrested many times in the past. Why is he still free to hurt people over and over again. Put the bastard in jail and leave him there.

How will you know you don't want to read about it if the thread title doesn't tell you what it's about. If the title is ambiguous you might click on it anyway just to find out what it's about, so the result is the same really.
