Well, I agree with some of what you say.

But it's not fair to say 'she's been pretending so long' or 'she's been fake since she came out'. I mean, she never got a CHANCE to find herself. She is still a kid herself. Live and learn. She is growing.

Wasn't Stevie Nicks an addict? I love Stevie, and she is a respected woman. Maybe Brit will grow and become like Stevie Nicks.

I feel bad for her kids too.

But I think if she could get her head on straight and ppl would leave her the fuck alone she'd pull through.

I just want her to get straight for her kids and stay out of the spotlight if it's causing her such mental anguish. I do agree with you that people need to leave her alone and let her get better for the sake of her children. I recently read a letter from her former assistant of 10 years, who no longer works for her and it was heartbreaking. She stopped working for her waay before the breakdown and in her letter she said that she tried to help Britney, but realized that she couldn't help someone who didn't want to help themselves. She said she couldn't save Britney from herself...and she's 100% right. My ex-boyfriend was an alcoholic. His mother was also an alcoholic, who died in a drunk driving accident that was her fault. I begged him to get help, but he would just yell at me and then he would cry to me about how he missed his mom and how they had a fight the day that she died. The last words that he said to her was that he hated her and then she was gone forever. He was drinking rum, brandy, and cognac in the middle of the day, everyday of the week and refused to admit that he had a problem. I begged him to quit, but he wasn't ready. I couldn't save him from himself, so I told him I had to go. I'm not going to stand around and watch someone destroy themselves. I don't know where he is today, but he taught me that you can't change someone who doesn't want to be changed; they have to change themselves; and if Britney is saying that she doesn't feel that she's an alcoholic or a drug addict (which has been reported by more than one news program), than it's time to walk away and pray for her.

Good answer. Me too. That's what bothers me about situations like this.

You people need to care about shit like this instead:

Britney's kids will be fine, a little fucked up maybe, but probably no more than the rest of us.

Of course I worry about "shit" like that. To assume that someone doesn't, simply because they talk about Britney Spears, is ridiculous.

He's implying that people who talk about celebs turn a blind eye to more devastating "real" issues.

I'm sure many do, but since he was addressing his comment in response to one of mine, I replied.

i think he's talking about the media coverage (and resulting level of public discussion) of Anna Nicole/Britney/whatever-celebrity-du-jour vs. millions of people suffering from preventable circumstances. sure, many care about all, but you have to admit that the coverage is definitely skewed.

I dunno. I don't watch all that much tv myself and when I do just have it on in the background (and my son is in bed) I usually have it on a news channel and celeb news is seldom talked about.

Most people would like to use the TV for entertainmend purposes after a hard day at work. And for a lot of people, the things they'll watch other than entertainment are the things they are familiar with. Either things that happen close to home, or people they know.

Well you just keep caring about these highly important issues and the rest of us will try so much harder to care for celebrities rather than world peace, hunger, war and all those other less important things rolleyes

i'm all for TV entertainment of course - god knows i watch a lot of mindless crap. but (at least here in the US) the lines between news and entertainment are blurred. when CNN does hours of live coverage of a death of a celebrity - HOURS! - with lots of commentary, speculation and old footage, it's very frustrating to me.

Well, eventually, it's not CNN who chooses what to show. It's what the ratings tell them. If they do otherwise, they will eventually fall.
And as I said, people like to hear news about familiar things, even if they are not as important as other news.
Living in Israel, I've dealt with news about war all of my life. So I like a little bit of entertainment instead. Something that is less than earth shattering news.

and that's where the problem lies with corporate news. nod

i can understand your need for balance between hard news and entertainment, but should those things not be on separate programs?
