Are u a big tipper?

do u strictly tip percentage or do u rate the waiter or waitress on their attitude and service?

i like to tip well when i go out, which isn't very often.

I tip minimum based on 15% or so of my ticket, and if the service is good, I add on top of that.
This one's for you.

Yes. I'm a big tipper, though now that I'm in Canada, I'm not sure where and who I need to tip, and how.
I give at least 25%.

I tend to be but it is based on service, a tip or gratuity is IMHO left to the customers discretion (at least it is here) and designed to encourage good service therefore good service is rewarded. If i get shit service i give a shit tip.

Good service good tip ...it's really that simple

bad service bad tip ... that is also that simple

Yes, I tip from 20 to 40 percent sometimes.

Folks aways expect a brown skin guy to tip less. So I actually try to tip more to combat that attitude. Plus it ensures I get better service when I return to the place (yes, sadly, initial service at restaurants is normally tepid towards me at best.)

In Sweden the tip is included in the bill, which sucks because I quite often feel like I don't want to leave any tip at all (service is terrible in this country). If it's been really good I might add up to 10% but that is the definite maximum.

I tip only if I like the sevice.
And then only about 10% with the odd exception.

I hate it when the tip is included in the bill.
Makes a mess of the whole concept.

Oh, and in Japan you'd better not leave tip. If you do they just get either confused or insulted.

Far too much. Sometimes up to 50%, no matter what. It brings back memories of waitressing, and well, they're very, very BAD memories.

i usually tip at the very least 20% - if they were a really good waiter (as in, if they waited on me more than i had to wait for them!), i'll tack on a little more.

if i can't afford to tip, then i figure i need to stay in and cook for myself.

No tipping here either.

It's somewhat insulting in some professions, altough I'm sure the money-hungry younger generation doesn't mind anymore.

I used to wait tables too! For 4 years. It's very very stressful work, and you often get clients who think you're just some flunkout and they treat you badly. And then you get clients who stiff you even though your service was great.

So, I'm like you. I always tip well, and have only tipped poorly less than 5 times in my life becuase the service was so bad. I went to an Italion restaurant once with my two nephews. The waitress came to my table last (even though we were the first of 5 tables to arrive). And took forever to even get me the sodas. Normally I'd say --she was the only one working the shift--but it wasn't like she was real busy. She actually had the nerve to stand at the table next to mine and chat up a storm with the folks at the table for 5 minutes before acknowledging me.

Ugh, yeah, isn't it lovely when you feel you're paying for nothing? sigh

My waitressing "days" (more like three months, tops) were right after I graduated. I had nothing else to do until fall at my local JC, and I have a great rack, so I though waitressing would be the way to go. OH MY GOD, I couldn't believe I could be so bad at something. To be in charge of over twenty tables and answer to the alcoholic cook/owner (who threw hot oil on me once and a large tub of mustard with the lid off another time) was just too much. The patrons just felt sorry for me. lol Especially when I'd greet them looking normal and come back with their drinks a minute later covered head-to-toe in mustard.

And I'm not fucking kidding. I really wish I were. lol

I'm a big tipper, it's based on attitude, service and knowledge of the menu (specials, if there's a good dish or wine that's not listed).

I always tip at least the tax times two, but I will always leave extra if the service and ambience are up to par!

aside from tipping at restaurants or tipping bartenders, i'm kind of wobbly about when to tip. when i use a drop off service at the laundromat, i always tip a few bucks because those poor people have to handle my dirty socks and underwear and i know they can't be getting paid enough to do that. but what about dry cleaners? i know the actual dry cleaning is done off-site and i think dry cleaning charges are kind of steep to begin with, so i don't tip. should i? are they farting on my shirts because i'm that cheapskate who never tips? eek

For good service, I tip 20%. I usually tip on tax and, when paying with a credit card, I try to tip with cash.

not many people will leave a tip for the maid service at a hotel. i try to remember. the hairdresser is another one i try to remember to keep cash for.

but no, i'm not a big tipper.

i don't understand how some places still get away with paying service staff less than minimum wage confused

We don't do tipping in my country although I've heard that some fancy hotels and restaurants welcome tipping from tourists.

I always try to leave a good tip, but alot of places here make the waiters put all the tips together and then split them up at the end of the shift.
Where I work now if we are given a tip we have to accept it and then put it in the donation bin, If we keep it and get caught the owners press charges on you for stealing.
Ether way its wrong, the person doing the work for you should get the tip that is given to them for their service
