Respect Life I cannot believe the ignorance of some (Ok, I said some, not all) of these people on the Org. Firstly, they get all upset asking why America/Americans are all hated – that is just from a recent thread, so again this is not directed to you Yankees but to all! And then when someone who creates a thread which is of some interest, has valuable content that we can all read, learn, understand and know what IS HAPPENING in US (and probably throughout the world), how it is evolving and also destroying people you both refuse to believe, asking for details of the source, but do not read it as fact then slate the guy who took his time to write about something we should all be made aware of and post evil things like NAZI, and to others Saddam sympathisers? Isn’t that what you didn’t want? You cry about a war coming on, how it is not right and want world peace, yet are so ignorant that you delve into the past and talk about something completely irrelevant to the thread, and attack.
You really don’t know how lucky you are. On my travels I have seen poverty, disease, cruelty and some really horrible sights that you wouldn’t believe. Vietnam Maimed children, happy (I think) running, limping, crawling and or pulling themselves along the street selling water, battered postcards, any thing to the tourists who will take pity on them, as that will get them their next meal, yet they are still polite and give you a gorgeous smile. One night, in Vietnam, when I was coming back from a night out, there was a little girl about 6 or 7, now this was about 2am, she was on her own, she was wearing a cheap, but pretty dress, it looked like it hadn’t been washed in days, weeks, she looked like she hadn’t been washed for days either, she was wearing no shoes, and selling flowers. What the hell is girl of that age doing on the streets at that time? The person I was with said she was there all night and every night, but the money she earns will go to her parents and it was unlikely the girl would benefit at all, but she has greater chance of earning a little money than her parents. I looked back at her, feeling so sorry, and saw her crouched down taking a shit in the street. Riots in Indonesia, children rattling a stick with metal bottle tops nailed in at the end making music to earn a living. Korea I was out shopping and heard the most fantastic voice singing and serenading in the street. I looked around to see where it was coming from and there was a man, with no arms or legs, lying on a skateboard, with a microphone propped up close to him while he happily sang his songs. Again, I looked in pity and wondered if I should give him some money. No he was a proud man, and was not begging or collecting donations, but he was a singer and selling his Cds! There is no social security in Korea, so if you ain’t got a job, you ain’t getting any money. This makes them seek work. They do not take the easy way out, they are not lazy. They are very hard working people. If family members are too old or unfit to work, then the younger members must support them. I knew one guy who had 9 people living in his home, and he had to go to work and support them all. It nearly killed him, but he had no other option, and he loved his family so much. They are trying to bring awareness to people regarding disabilities. There was one advert I saw in their subway station, and Meg, who I was with asked if I knew what it meant. Obviously I didn’t because I CANNOT READ KOREAN. Well, one young guy came back from war – this is a true story. He called his Mum and said he was coming home. She was delighted and asked when he would be back. In a couple of days he replied. She was so excited. Then he asked nervously if he could bring his war friend with him to stay. Of course she replied, any friend of yours who has served our country is a friend of the family! But Mum, I don’t want you to be too shocked; he lost his arm and leg when fighting. There was a pause…Hesitantly, the Mum, said, well I don’t really think it is a good idea that you do bring your friend. Has he somewhere else to go? Think of the neighbours, what will they say. He will bring shame and people will talk. The next day the soldier committed suicide. He did not have a friend; it was actually himself who had lost his limbs during the war. People are ignorant to disabilities over there, and the poster is trying to bring social awareness to the community. Can you imagine that happening in Europe, USA? Never! China I’ve seen people die before my eyes, babies taken from their mothers in China, for a better life abroad somewhere as they still have one child policies in some areas, Underage children working in factories, close to sleeping on the job while working on big industrious machinery, working 22 hour shifts to get the product out and shipped in time. I do not condone that, so when I travel with my company, we do constructively put a stop to that! Cramped dirty dormitories, no life outside of work as the money they earn gets sent back to their families, but they are cheerful and enjoy the most out of their very basic lives, I could go on and on, but just stop and think how fortunate we all are, enjoy and live life – you do not know what is around the corner, and if you have a blip in your life, think of those worse off than you. Disclaimer: I have no source for all above, just experiences, what I have seen and heard, so if you beg to differ or question what I have said, feel free, I have been at fault also, but do not hate me!

Indeed a valuable mention...various conditions around our world (including here in U.S), can be very disturbing... yet at the same time, beautiful is how so many individual's approach life with such acceptance (even through difficult ways of life). To truly appreciate what we have (nothing more... nothing less)(love), if we contain the needed necessities such as food, shelter, good health, love (family/friends/strangers/ourselves ) and happiness (that alone is everything). Even when we may not have the needed necessities, there is always hope/faith. Appreciating each new day, simply for the beauty is truly contains... look around (with an open heart/compassion), it truly is everywhere... it overwhelmes me. (((beautiful sigh)))
May I add ... all this from a very personal standpoint. Beautiful Day! [This message was edited Fri Sep 13 8:08:40 PDT 2002 by Freespirit]

First of all, soulpower didn't write it himself. Despite the fact that he is a "journalist" by profession, he pointed out many times that he deliberately didn't take the time to write or even think about anything that he posted. That's why so many people responded asking for his reasons for posting and his interpretation of the statistics. It was straight up bait. Are you suggesting that we should all just shut up and listen to what some stranger on a message board posts as fact? That any criticism is invalid? You cry about a war coming on, how it is not right and want world peace, yet are so ignorant that you delve into the past and talk about something completely irrelevant to the thread, and attack.
Who is "you."? You deliberately keep your pronouns vague. Is this the advantage of and reason for avoiding personal "flames"? (something soulpower seemed suspiciously eager that we avoid) It allows you to brand both individuals and nations without actually making a direct charge. You really don’t know how lucky you are. On my travels I have seen poverty, disease, cruelty and some really horrible sights that you wouldn’t believe.

I honestly don't understand the intent of this example. Are you saying that it's bad that this kind of thing doesn't happen here? China

Why do you feel that everyone who questions soulpower's statistics feels this way? There is nothing to warrant that assumption. Just like there is nothing to warrant soulpower's assumption that everyone who responded to him, some "aggressively" mind you was American. He's just dumb like that. He equates negativity with aggression and doesn't like to be called on his ideas. These are real experiences, not meaningless statistics googled up by some hack. That's the difference between you and soulpower. Never!
I honestly don't understand the intent of this example. Are you saying that it's bad that this kind of thing doesn't happen here? China
I’ve seen people die before my eyes, babies taken from their mothers in China, for a better life abroad somewhere as they still have one child policies in some areas, Underage children working in factories, close to sleeping on the job while working on big industrious machinery, working 22 hour shifts to get the product out and shipped in time. Disclaimer: I have no source for all above, just experiences, what I have seen and heard, so if you beg to differ or question what I have said, feel free, I have been at fault also, but do not hate me!
