(((((Nan))))) so sorry to hear about the bitch downstairs, you are one of the sweetest persons I have had the pleasure of interacting with!

I have kinda a funny story about my upstairs neighbour...

One day she just shows up at my door and invites herself in, um ok... so she comes in and is quite bold and is talking a mile a minute all the while picking up my personal belongings off shelves and inspecting them (this is the first time I met her). It was all quite amusing to me since I had never met her before....

So at some point in her talking, she completely switches the topics and asks if I can hear her upstairs when she is playing her music or walking in her shoes (she stomps quite loudly). I tell her "yes". She stops and looks all offended, and asks "which one?" I smile and tell her both. She starts into this rant about how I should have come knocked on her door yada yada, so I stop her and explain to her that its ok, it's part of living in a building that you share with others and I know that she is not intentionally trying to annoy me - if it was a problem I would have come and knocked on her door.

She then excused herself to go talk to another neighbour..

I don't think it's unreasonable to expect people want to "live" in their homes, and that sometimes means vaccuming up a spill that happens in the middle of the night, or turning your fav cd up a bit louder when you come home from work and want to unwind. You still have to have respect for others, and yes there are some out there that abuse this. I guess that's why they say common sense isn't always so common smile

hug Mua! I can't believe that someone would come into your home, take off your shelf to look at it, then gets mad when she asks you if she makes too much noise, and you gave her an honest answer. I think I would have been really angry if someone came into my house and took stuff off my shelves without asking. Does she still live in your building?

LOL yea, like I said - it was amusing! I was wondering if she was going into the kitchen to see what was in my fridge next! hahahah

On the flip side, I put things I like on shelves so that I (and my guests) can enjoy them. If a 3 year old had shown a curiousity in these objects, it would have been encouraged. I don't know why we would have to discourage adults for the same actions wink.

And to answer your question - YUP, she still lives here biggrin

I've heard of people going into someone's refrigerator and having a look around. omg You're right, an adult should know better than to take something off a shelf without asking first. biggrin

Nancy, I once had a neighbour in Uni who complained about me because the ELECTRICITY was too loud. Apparently, whilst my stereo was in stand-by mode, he could hear it through the walls. He had a nervous breakdown and left his course months later. confused He wasn't of 'sound mind', as they say.

Don't let some old crone bully you; stand your ground. And try not to worry about it - if you're doing nothing wrong, you have nothing to fear.

Take care. hug

omg The electricity was too loud? That guy definitely was not of sound mind. wacky I definitely will stand my ground, because as you said, I didn't do anything wrong. I think once I tell my side of the story to the association board, they will know the kind of wacko neighbor that I'm dealing with. hug

That reminds of something that happened to my friends. In their previous apartment they had this upstairs neighbor and they work from home. One night, around 10pm or so they are working on their computers--the ceiling fan is on and their music on super super low. The guy upstairs comes down, knocks on the door and tells them to turn off their ceiling fan because it's too loud. Mind you this is summer in NY & they don't have ac. My friend is like, "uh, whatever. the fan is on low, you can't even hear it." The neighbor gets agitated says he's gonna get the super. My friend is like, "Be my guest, you're being ridiculous." SO the super comes and is like--you need to work it out or something (I don't remember.) But here's the good part: so neighbor goes upstairs and about 30 minutes later my friends hear another knock on the door. It's the NYPD!! They come in and are like, "Where's the party?" My friends are like--it's just us and our 2 cats. NYPD got a noise complaint from upstairs neighbor. The cops were like wacky . So they go upstairs and evidently this guy had all the windows closed, no AC (it was stifling hot in the apt), no carpets or rugs and the mattress was lying directly on the floor.

My friends moved but they were going make flyers advertising a casting call or a new chinese restaurant and put crazy neighbors phone number on it. lol I don't think they did though--karma is a bitch.

I have my own apt. woes--my building is being demolished, so when my lease is up on 6/30 I have to move. I have a rent stabilized apartment and finding affordable housing in NYC is no picnic so I'm really dreading that. sigh

That sucks about your neighbor. Make sure you document *everything* and just a word of advice--when you write your letter to the condo association...don't use the word "bitch" to describe her. smile

Good luck!

Wow, I can't believe that neighbor complained about a ceiling fan being too loud. He and my bitchy neighbor should live above or below each other in the same building, so they can drive each other crazy. lol

Sorry to hear about your building being demolished, that's terrible. sad I hope you find another place quickly and that you like it.

I definitely won't use the word "bitch" to describe my neighbor, even though that's what she is.

Good luck to you as well in finding a new place to live.
