Well come on.. Carrie.. I know YOU are cultured.. but some Americans are just stagnating in their own lil towns and arent knowledgeable about whats going on outside of their town let alone America.. and alot of the posts here clearly show that..

No, but I think they usually have a broader perspective. An awful lot of Americans live in the middle of a very large country and have never encountered other cultures. They ARE stupid in a clueless sort of way, but it's not really their fault. wink

I think small-mindedness comes in all nationalities.

But I'd concede we may have a bigger problem of it in the US than other places.

I agree the US has a lot to be ashamed of, but I think we have a lot to be proud of too. And while I can agree with certain criticisms as well, it's kind of like you picking on my family. They may be flawed, but they're MY family.

Well yes.. I admire you saying that..

I guess going by ratio.. there are alot more americans that are classless and stupid, comparing the size of america,, but again.. there are so many who dont even know whats going on around the world.. and are so closed in and narrowminded

I would also say Americans are more forth coming in saying their shit.. even though they are wrong.. alot wont just sit back and listen to what others are saying.. and maybe europeans are more reserved in that way.. as in they arent so bolshy, and will respect the opinions of others..

again.. just another theory hmmm

Oh no Carrie dear.. hug

I am all for listening to both sides.. I love and respect you.. but there are some doofus americans as are there europeans..

I just think maybe there is more room for growth or correction in Europe than there could be in America.. and again its prolly down to location and upbringing..

WE all have Family and no family is perfect

For me to even try to think that one country as a whole is more intelligent then the next ...seems less then an intelligent way to look at humankind

I would agree in the sense that alot of poorer countries are richer in quality of life.. their simpleness is beautiful and they have alot more respect for nature and mankind..

really we are the poor ones.. sad

Yeah, "forthcoming" would be a charitable way to put it. I think that's a combination of middle-America isolation allowing people to believe that their opinions are the only opinions because they haven't really heard anybody say different, and also the openess of American culture. One of the things I like about Americans is that open attitude. There's a genuine warmth to it. But sure, on an intellectual level, it's very frustrating to have that combined with ignorance.

I also think that many European folks that I've met have a sort of know-it-all arrogance. Damned if you do. . . shrug

Of course, it's hard to generalize, because I don't think that average Americans on the coasts are, on balance, any less "intelligent" (well-rounded) than Europeans. They still have the hurdle of giant oceans/expensive flights if they want to visit anyplace other than Mexico and Canada, but I think there's more global awareness.

I wonder if many Europeans understand how many Americans envy and admire you. We get kinda bummed out being stuck over here sometimes. lol
