I read in a book somewhere that it has been proven, without a shadow of a doubt, that Australians are smarter than Americans and Europeans. woot!

That's one of the most ignorant comments I have ever read here confused . I wonder if you plan to stay at home when you get old so you won't insult anybody with your fading beauty. But wait, your skin might get whiter if you don't go into the sun anymore hmmm.

I AM old!! I'm just not going to walk around a beach with no top on.

This explains it all.

I think small-mindedness comes in all nationalities.

But I'd concede we may have a bigger problem of it in the US than other places.

I agree the US has a lot to be ashamed of, but I think we have a lot to be proud of too. And while I can agree with certain criticisms as well, it's kind of like you picking on my family. They may be flawed, but they're MY family.

I would have to agree.

You're not giving rural America the credit it deserves.
Where else would the saying: "Before you buy the calf take a look at the cow" come from????

Those are the same people who do their own plumbing, electric repairs, fixing the tractor, and whatever else needs to be done, because hiring someone to fix it for you isn't in the program. Along with jerryrigging a pulley and having some young kid paint the silo umpteem feet off the ground. (my husband, the family farm)
Being cultured isn't an end all. I'm sure you know that.

All I know, intelligence isn't based on formal education, sophistication, $$ in the bank, region where one lives, nationality, etc.
In any given country, there's street hustlers who are just as bright and creative as the local millionaire.

I don't think it's a insult to say europeans are more intelligent. Would there be a dispute if we were talking about the Japanese or the Chinese? God knows, the focus is not on education in this country. The focus is on Britney and her shaved head. rolleyes

What's wrong with walking around on a beach topless? shrug

I know. lol I go to the naked section of the beach all the time. It used to be my regular "spot" when I went to the beach, because it's less crowded and you don't have to deal w/ crappy techno music blasting from every direction and the meat market that the "popular" sections of the beach are. disbelief

Not sure what being topless at the beach has to do with intelligence though. hmm

I don't think they are more intelligent, but they sure are more exposed and worldly as they can easily expose themselves to so many vivrant cultures in and around their respective countries in no time at all. Imagine being able to go to all those surrounding countries in a matter of hours and days, when all we do is plan vacations to just another state that is of the same culture.

So from a cultural and worldly point of view...MOST DEFINITELY. Because one does become more intelligent with the accumulation of knowledge and experiences outside of one's own microcosmic existence.

Yes, I do and I believe Canadians are more intelligent too.

People outside of the US seem to know much more about other cultures, other histories and are not so hung up on celebrities etc. Perhaps saying others are more intelligent is not correct, but they are definitely less educated on many subjects than others.
