COMPUTER HELP WANTED!! About a month ago I saved onto floppy disc all message sessions between me and a freind of mine that we both have had on Yahoo Instant Messenger and I want 2 add more recent sessions onto the same disc as I think theres some space left on the disc 2 add more, anyway I put the disc into the floppy disc drive of my computer and now I cant open up the disc 2 see all the message sessions so as 2 know where I left off in order 2 add the more recent sessions!! it keeps coming up with notices about formatting the disc and if I do format the disc then I will lose everything on the disc, and so I risk it and click OK 2 start formatting, but it says that I am unable 2 format the disc and anyway the disc is already formatted cos it says so on the disc itself!!!
So, how come I cant open up this disc 2 see all the message sessions?? I also copied them from the Yahoo Message Archive onto WordPad or Notepad(I cant remember which now)!! Does anyone on here have any suggestions as 2 how I can open up the disc 2 view these message sessions?? Thanks!!!

Or maybe try shaking it three times, while hopping on your left leg and chanting *I love Redfeathers' computer expertise*

Or maybe try shaking it three times, while hopping on your left leg and chanting *I love Redfeathers' computer expertise* that sounds like something that would need lashings of ginger beer

Or maybe try shaking it three times, while hopping on your left leg and chanting *I love Redfeathers' computer expertise* Actually, that's not bad advice - well the shaking part of it anyway. Assuming we're talking about 3 1/4 inch floppies the disk inside the outer case can get stuck so giving it a shake might work. Come to think of it, the hopping on left leg would probably also help, and you can't beat a good chant, so I say follow Redfeathers advice. Lemmy, Bowie, Prince, Leonard. RIP.

It is because the disk is faulty.
The quality of 3.5" floppies fell down drastically after CD-RW drives became commonplace. They needed to still manufacture them for a very low price, even if there wasn't anymore that much demand for them. On top of that, floppy drives are also quite cheaply produced these days, so they tend to mess up the disks themselves. It's not uncommon that 30% of the disks per package these days are defect straight out of the box. Plus they really don't last too long anymore. What there is left to try out is trying to read the disk on a bunch of different computers. Some disk drives might able to read the disk, but make a back-up of the files afterwards. Disks are not to be trusted these days.

plus just because your disk says formatted means nothing...you often have to reformat it anyway if you have corrupted files... or if you've been saving files from different versions of the same program..happened to me
invest in a cd burner...computers aren't even sold with floppy disk drives anymore unless you specifically ask for it, and then again - why would you... they have usb memory sticks now...i mean they're steap but you can look around for sales and get them for real cheap - i got a 2G stick for 20$ around boxing day... floppy disks aren't the best way to back anything up anymore because it's so easy to fuck them up, the moment you disk gets caught on something that pulls the metal back, that disk is in trouble... obsolete edit. well, the upside is that we are all reminded to be careful what we say in chat, since people apparently save their chat logs.

whats really interesting is when months later someone will say "i never said that, i said this" and you pull out the chat log and think "hmmm.... now why would they try to change their story now?" There is no perfect place
Yes I know this is true I'm just learning how to smile Thats not easy to do

That was going to be my suggestion. I'm surprised that there are still new computers out there that have floppy drives anymore. They are essentially obsolete.
