What a night I have had with the dog, He kept on having fits all night long and got him to the vets this morning, whilst there he had another fit so it works out that he had a fit one every hour last night.

They have him stable now on a drip of valium (I cant get that from the Doctors) but still dont know when he will be coming home.


I dont care how much we want our dog, Snowy to have the best treatment that is available.

It not looking good as the medication levels are not working they have increased the level and have sent him to a vets that can watch him over night they also mentioned brain tumour as well.

I am hating today

***** SATURDAY U P D A TE*****

Snowy had a peaceful night and had only one minor attack at midnight the vets are going to try and ween him off the heavy drugs and try him on Dyzipan(sp) so hopefully we can pick him up tonight or tomorrow.

If the dyzipan works then he will be on it for the rest of his life.

***** SUNDAY U P D A TE*****

Picked him up today from the vets, and when I say picked him up thats what I did as he can not use his back legs the vets say its down to the lengh of time he was under (24hrs) hes eating and drinking and peeing (in his basket). He has to go back to my local vet tomorrow and I have to go to the other vets to pay for his treatment as well and you dont want to know how much that is, well lets just say a packet, but its worth it.

I hoping by tomorrow he be at some part back to his normal self Fingers Crossed.

There are times, when I think the kindest thing for animals is 2 put them 2 sleep. I am not suggesting in anyway that this time is such a time, but rather than let the poor animal suffer anymore pain and discomfort, it is kinder 2 put them 2 sleep!! if that poor dog has 2 b on valium for the rest of its life, then it cant b much fun for the poor thing!!

Is your dog eating properly and doing other bodily functions normally?? If the dog cant do any or either of those things, then I would do some serious thinking!!

This thread's not half as much fun as the title suggested.

i didn't realize your pup was so sick from the thread title...

it's so stressful being so helpless to help them.
my sister's dog had a tumor and lived for quite a while on medication
hopefully they can do something to get the seisures under control
otherwise keep us updated

It depends on what's causing the seizures. If valium isn't controlling them well at normal doses, there might be something bigger going on.

The good news is, seizures themselves are not painful (or so I've been told by humans who have them).

(Diazepam is generic Valium, btw. . . so if you get stressed out, you can ask your dog to share his meds. ).

Yep I have two , one who is nine and the other is 8 weeks old

my ninie yr old is trying to molly coddle him but we have told her to leave him alone as he is still under the influence of the medication.

I have to take him to the vets (monday)to see if they will reduce his medication hes on a form of Barbiturates at the moment all spaced out.

the nitty gritty of it is hes has Epilepsy. Founf this out when he had the 'Big one' that is a night of fits and seizures its more distressing to see than it is for the dog as they are out of it for the count. Took him to the vets and now he is on some class 3 drug which the prescribe for him He has to go back to the vets on Monday for a blood test to make sure that he is recieving enough of the drug. So he could be on a lesser amount.

and he's getting back to being his normal self now.
