this was my yesterday...
it started really coming down this afternoon... and when i came home from running errands you couldn't see my tracks from when i left. up until now i have managed to avoid the hollow in the snow over the street drain but with all the snow i managed to sink my front tire right square in it. the front of the car was wedged into the snowpack... and the tire would not budge. so i shovelled - and shovelled - and shovelled some more. thankfully last winter i purchased some snow spikes. you wedge them under the tire to help gain traction. these spikes combined with liberal amounts of potting gravel and a gentle accelerator foot got me out of the hole eventually. then i had to finish shovelling the sidewalks. all in all i guess there is about a foot of new snow. the snow within shovel throwing distance is probably close to 4 feet now... and when i stepped in the backyard en route to the shed for the gravel i encountered snow over my knees. time for some warm weather to settle all of this shit!

july said: We had snow flurries in the for for the last few days. Even today, but none on ground. It melts. Friday it's gonna be like 56 degrees and raining. Updraft from Hawaii. Warm rain. But we still huddle around and stumble into coffee shops for warm desserts and act all cold, when it's actually nice outside. Just wet. We ain't happy unless it 70 degrees. 60, no. 50, no. 70, 80. Yes.
Saturday. 60 degrees. | |

The freeways aren't clear I'll likely need help pushing my car out of it's parking spot at some point today. I'm gonna make a snow man later. |

winds gusting up to 60 mph here... I am getting thoughts of building a big snow fort in the huge piles of snow like I did when my siblings & I were younger though HUGE s so many of my favorite orgers are on this thread Miss you, lady. Hope you're surviving up there. This has been crazy. We haven't had 2 storms back to back like this for 25 years. And totals will be in the top 10 of all time. Not quite as big as the '91 blizzard, but it's damn close. I'm looking forward to playing in it, though, I have to admit. Friends have invited me to go snowbaording tomorrow. I haven't done that in 10 years or more, but I think I may even take them up on it. |

Oh God, we are getting it here today. Not fun at all.
I dragged my ass to work and, of course, only one other person showed up so far. I don't know if anyone is actually gonna show up so I don't know whether to just go home or stay. I freaking hate winter.

Normally the walks and streets are fairly clear by the time I leave the house. After last weekend's storm I realized I couldn't live without them anymore. i've lived in chicago for six years and i haven't owned a pair of boots until two weeks ago. chicago isn't MPLS, but it can come close sometimes. boots aren't fun shoe purchases, but now that i own them i feel all badass whenever i'm wearing them. don't make me kick.
