How do you guys get over bad dreams?

I had a really horrible dream last night that my beautiful daughter died. I was crying uncontrollably and awoke feeling all that pain as if it were real. Luckily I am able to just say to myself "it was just a dream" and move on with my day. Friends have told me they aren't able to shake shit like that so easily. What about you people?

I still have some really realistic nightmares about things that have happened in the past. That stuff can effect you for a long time and reasoning "its just a dream" does not always help, the only real way i have found to deal is to fill my head with positive stuff about the person/situation....go hug her and tell her you love her, it helps solidify in your mind that she is ok and still there.
hug

Either that or alot of alcohol!

I'm bein' dead serious, that dream means someone is gonna have a baby.

But anyways, I just shake it off, it's JUST a dream.

i think dreams exist as a way for our subconscious minds to process stuff that's going on in life, whether it's above or below the surface.

i don't usually dream. but while i was really sick with a cold and taking nyquil a week or so ago, i had a couple of dreams that took place in and around my recently-deceased grandma's house, including one where the house was totally empty and i was saying goodbye to it.

i really just think it's the subconscious's way of straightening itself out. supposedly we dream all the time when we're asleep, but we usually don't remember the dreams.

i know this was about as helpful as tits on a flea. hug

UGH. Sick dreams are the worst.

I used to always have the SAME ONE when I was little too. That everything around me was getting BIGGER and BIGGER and BIGGER.

I used to have night terrors too. My mom said I used to come downstairs screaming hysteriacally that I was eating myself. disbelief

I hate dreams like that, it messes up your whole day sad I can never shake it until the next day. Somehow sleep has ultimate power over my mood - if I wake up that way, I'll stay that way until I wake up again.

I occasionally dream that my dog has died, which really really gets to me sad When I didnt live at home, I would have to call my mother up in the morning just to check she was ok! But the worst dream I remember, was a couple of years ago. I dreamt that my Dad, who died when I was 16, came back to life, but then died again sad I woke up myself up in hysterics...

I think I had a bad dream last night, don't know what it was though, just felt kinda funny all day sigh

I rarely get bad dreams and when I do, I usually forget about them a half hour after waking up.

shrug

I mean, that's what normal people do anyway.

Don't be so hard on him Erin.

Some people NEED to consult the org to find out how to do day to day things.

I think dreams about death are actually representations of big changes. Maybe you're subconciously consumed with changes that your children are going through recently?

It depends, whenever I have dreams about death someone usually dies but it's never the person I dreamt about. It stirs me to call everyone close and see how things are going, touch base. Then I have bad dreams that are off the wall those I shake off and go back to sleep.

Thats another thing about dreams: I am always tempted to ask someone else because sometimes its so easy for another person to see straight through it, to the answer nod

im sorry u had such a horrible dream - but thankful that it was just that...
i've had one very hurtful and scary dream in the past day or two and reoccured only for a bit last night...
death isn't bad in dreams however, it usually signifies a new beginning

it's scary nonetheless.. cry

I don't know that dreams mean anything about what's going on in your life. Sometimes, they're just dreams. lol

As for scary dreams, if they're that bad and wake me up I usually have to keep myself up for a while, cause I'm afraid of falling back asleep and falling back into the same dream. That happens to me all the time. But it rarely affects me past 20 minutes or so. I'm usually able to let them go quickly. And since I learned to lucid dream, I usually able to calm myself down in my dream and change what's going on.

oh, it's great fun! smile Once I figure out I'm dreaming I can generally control at least my own actions in the dream, sometimes I can control the whole thing.
I don't always realize I'm dreaming, though, so it's not every single dream.

I think that is what my friend sometimes talks about. I have never been able to do that, I never feel like my dreams last long enough to control anything! Well, I tend to have really long dreams, but the subject matter is like Chinese Whispers, it changes randomly all the time! Very confusing! So I never remember anything solid either confused

See?
I'm bein totally seriouis when I say this, cuz I'm not serios about too many things but I swear.

This happens to me like ALL the time.

And this one time I had a dream that I had 7 babies and I was breast feeding them and the next morning it was on the news that there was a plane crash and SEVEN people died. It was a whike ago but I still remember, so freaky.

And then its the other way around too. When I dream of death someone has a kid. Not kidding.

Dreams can have different significance for different people... death (and anything) can mean a whole host of things both literal and symbolic depending on the person

I was giving a dream definition book for xmas. This book has helped me get through the bad dreams. I used to dwell on my nightmare, now I just read up on my dream and try to move on.
Say it's just a dream...
U open up ur eyes and come 2 realize
u simply imagined this
So u lean over and give her a kiss
Here on earth, here on earth,
with u it's not so bad
Here on earth, here on earth
eye don't feel so sad
Stay right here

LMAO!! Hmmm...wonder what was troubling him?

Here's what my dream book says about dreaming of death:

To dream about the death of a loved one, suggests that you are lacking a certain aspect or quality that the loved one embodies. Ask yourself what makes this person special or what do you like about him. It is that very quality that you are lacking in your own relationship or circumstances.

Here are a couple of dream tips

1) if u want to remember your dreams then wake up with an alarm. Dont wake up naturally. An unnatural awakening makes u significantly more likely to rememebr your dreams

2) keep a dream diary by your bed. when u wake up, jot down all that u can remember. within a week your recollections will become greater and u will feel as u are dreaming more (this is not the case though, we all dream.. its simply a case of training your brain)

try it, i kid u not. i have a degree in psychology so nerghhhhh

So, you taught yourself to do it? How? smile

Have you seen Waking Life? If not, Netflix it right this minute.

When I wake up from nightmares, it generally helps me to get out of bed, have some water or something. . .just to make sure I really wake up. Then I can usually go back to sleep. It's when I lay there half-awake drifting in and out of it that it's really bad.
oh noes, prince is gonna soo me!!1!
