Ok so if an American were to post a list of sad facts about Germany you wouldn't jump on us? Maybe you should have elaborated a little bit. How are we not going to take offense to this? Think a little first, please.

carrie, I am a jouranlist. I critizise my own country every single day, millions of germans reading it. criticism and raising awareness is a positive and constructive thing. if you present me a list of statistics like the one I just posted on the US, please do so. I would be very much interested in seeing it.
its funny how all of you are getting so offened about numbers. I have not attacked any of you personally. I did not make up those numbers. I have just posted them. and you get upset about that. thats a little strange, dont you think

The "bad things"? That's not much better. Being close to someone who has a rather serious mental illness, I find your simplistic view to be scary.

It's been difficult enough fighting the stigma that goes along with such conditions without having to counter fundamentalist views like yours.

give me an appropriate term to conclude those statistics. you dont think a mental disease as a result of the forces given in that post is "bad" or "negative"? btw: why cant you debate the actual topic? you dont address anything in this statistic, instead you call me "fundamentalist". thats very typical and on fashion these days, anybody who criticizes US politics is a "fundamentalist". why so aggressive?

It's tiring soulpower. I'm tired of hearing all the bad things. I don't agree that all the criticizing is a good thing. Some people are afraid after reading all that shit! Why not post positive things so that people have some kind of hope?

I'm not attacking you, but if you are going to put up lists like this, expect people to criticize YOU!

I think what he's saying in a nut shell is that none of us are perfect. We can go on and on attacking each other and you know where it's going to get us? NOWHERE. It's time to get along, dismiss this bullshit and make this world a better place.

I did expect this, but I did expect criticizm that has something to do with the actual topic. except for you, so far I have only read meaningless insults and stupid comparisms aimes towards me. they dont affect me, trust me.
if you are tired of reading or hearing this, then dont do it. its your choice. but its my right to post this here. and carrie, didnt you know that only through understanding problematic issues, debating them, criticizing them you can make them better? if you leave them as they are... then you wont change shit! you know what I am tired of? people smilingv into cameras, telling me again and again that everything is beautiful, that we dont have to worry. thats tiring. and when people get afraid, as you say, the become more careful. and whoever is careful will watch out that mistakes are not being repeated.

Gotta rant...

You know in all reality I think it's fair (based on my extensive research wink) to say that a majority of Americans would rather live here than elsewhere. So sure, there is probably a feeling for many that this place is the "best place on earth."

That said I don't think that having some degree of national pride is a particularly American phenomenon. I mean it's not like we've killed anybody over a freaking soccer(I know "football") game recently. I figure most people regardless of where they are from have an innate feeling that their particular homeland is preferable to others.

Of course nobody cares when the French think that they are superior (which they do, in my experience) to everyone else. I mean WTF is France really gonna do with that little superiority complex, threaten us with a wine and cheese embargo? (Actually, I REALLY dig France, the French however...). wink

America, however, is a superpower with a whole lotta guns so people get nervous when we start waving the flag. Oh well, I guess I understand that. Right now there is a heightened feeling of patriotism in the country for obvious reasons. In a couple of months (or weeks) when the latest/greatest scandal of the moment has hit, folks over here will be fretting that things are so much worse than they have ever been, the end is near ..yadayadayada..

Lastly, I do think that it's a shame that with the obviously international contingent we have here, when it comes time to roast a nation, America is the popular target on this board.
Yeah we got issues, but so does Brazil, China, Germany, Sudan (major issues there),etc...

Whew! Exorcised that demon, for now.

It upsets me to read this shit and I have a right to voice my opinion. I haven't insulted you once on this thread, so you saying that all you've read has been insults is not true.

And I don't know about you, but I haven't seen anybody smiling into the cameras saying "everything is beautiful" in quite some time. Maybe that's what we need instead of seeing who was shot and raped this morning.

I think this picture in this thread makes as much sense as the thing you are trying to reach with starting it in the first place...
And you immediately feel why these people are upset with your thread.

carrie READ correctly. I have said: "except for you, so far I have only read meaningless insults and stupid comparisms aimes towards me." so I guess that means that I have understood that you have never insulted me. and I am sorry, there are too many smiling faces on TV. of course you are entitled to your opinion. so am I. but this is a thread that I have started, and -- with all due respect --- if you are getting upset reading it, then dont read it. its as easy as that. wink

GOOEY! if you think my thread is pointless, then alright. but if you compare it to a nazi-pic being posted to connect me with it.. I am sorry. Its like saying "Bush is a nazi". many people do that, but in may opinion nobody deserves to be called nazi but a friggin nazi! too terrible are the crimes they have commited, no osama, hussein, mobutu, bush, blair or kohl can ever keep up with that. sorry.

everyone is always talking about wanting peace and yet you all are arguing. that will help.

the thread is cool with me but this "I am not posting this to offend. " and then this "For those of you who, on previous threads and in the future, name America as an example of how a civilization should work, eat this. And think twice."

cheers!
