I just kinda played the scenario out in my head....and it seems to be a natural thing to go towards the opposite right shoulder if you're right handed....because if you're hugging a person who is also right handed, you won't bump heads when you go for the clutch...the funny shit comes when its a lefty you're trying to grab up on...

then again, I could be overthinking this.....but I AM in the military, where prior to coming in, I never noticed the whole "left foot-right arm swing" thing...just sayin'

lol

lol i'm picturing you trying to figure that out during basic training...

Good grief! I am full frontal hugger.

To heck with etiquette, a hug is a hug.

it wasn't a problem picking it up.....but from the moment that they "taught" us that during drill and ceremony, it becomes very obvious to you....and trust me, the funniest shit is watching some goob from Podunk, Iowa try to march...left arm, left leg.....like Robby the Robot from Lost in Space.....hilarious!! lol

i just prefer to hug, period.

hug lol what about an unexpected peck on the cheek? when that happens to me, i have typically already moved on toward the person's ear, and kissing them there just adds a whole different level to the exchange... lol

I like the shoulder hug the best, very comforting, not to much bodycontact.

I love hugging! I even started a thread about it the other day

http://www.prince.org/msg/100/219228

I hug the people I love, the people I like, and the people who look like they need it. If anyone ever needs a hug, they know where to find one!

I usually go for the right shoulder as well, but I'm short, so sometimes I just wrap my arms around the person's torso, and bury my cheek into their ribs. biggrin

a friend of mine recently told me that the direction of a hug has positive or negative meanings. eek i've always hugged people toward their right shoulder - the other way just seems unnatural.

so after she said that, i've started watching people, and it seems that the right shoulder hug is the most common.

what is your hugging preference?
hmmm

I love a good tight squeeze- bear hug I guess.

I hate when the person I am hugging puts their shoulder in the middle of my chest and I get the half a hug thing....

those are nice, too. in a way, that seems more intimate than a regular hug, maybe because of the possible eye contact.

Off topic, but you should have seen the body language from my ex wife when Erin hugged her. Fucking HILARIOUS.

lol

I do that too. So does everyone in my family. lol
I hugged one of my professors at Christmas time and I've noticed that I often touch people when talking.

Also, I've heard that the "patting the back" hug is a sign of the hugger being uncomfortable.

Reminds me of the first time I met my italian father-in-law, set aside all the stress of the father of your girlfriend but having to hug and kiss him too!

Awww...see, for me, that would have been a sign that all is ok smile and it would have made me feel very welcome.
It's the formal handshake deal in those situations that makes me feel uncomfortable.

It's fine now, I am used to it but the feel of stubble on your face was very bizzare! I now find it more wierd with my own family, mostly handshakes and pats where men are concerned. Shame really.
