I just kinda played the scenario out in my head....and it seems to be a natural thing to go towards the opposite right shoulder if you're right handed....because if you're hugging a person who is also right handed, you won't bump heads when you go for the clutch...the funny shit comes when its a lefty you're trying to grab up on...

then again, I could be overthinking this.....but I AM in the military, where prior to coming in, I never noticed the whole "left foot-right arm swing" thing...just sayin'

a friend of mine recently told me that the direction of a hug has positive or negative meanings. i've always hugged people toward their right shoulder - the other way just seems unnatural.

I usually go for the right shoulder as well, but I'm short, so sometimes I just wrap my arms around the person's torso, and bury my cheek into their ribs.

I hugged one of my professors at Christmas time and I've noticed that I often touch people when talking.

Also, I've heard that the "patting the back" hug is a sign of the hugger being uncomfortable.
