At one workplace where we had employee lockers, during lunch break we went and bought a stick of deodorant and then shoved it into the stinky co-workers locker anonymously. He never stunk after that! My art book: http://www.lulu.com/spotl...ecomicskid

Act all confused and smell around, smell yourself. Get her to smell around too. If she doesn't clue in...follw the trail of funk to her than back away quickly giving her an omg look. Or you could just say, "I'm sorry but you really stink". Either way, she's probably gonna cry. I know that is right! That what happened to this girl that I went to school with one day in class. She was very funky and some of the girls acted like, "Someone needs to wash their ass because I am getting tired of smelling their funky smell." She know they was talking about her and damn she look like she was going to cry, her face was redden. But I know after that happened, she came to school smelling okay though. In all seriousness...I've had friends that have had bad breath, I never told them out of fear of upsetting them.
[Edited 2/27/07 10:22am] I had a friend like that too. I didnt want to hurt her feelings so I would just ofter her gum and breath mints. I know that it is a cop-out but I just can't hurt people feelings like that though. That what people did too when I was in high school. [Edited 2/27/07 14:53pm]

For real the best thing is to be honest but tell them in a friendly, caring way if you have the balls to do it. [Edited 2/27/07 14:54pm]

As you're talking to her, just be like "Oh my god, what is that horrible smell?? Do you smell that too?" and pretend like you think it's something in the room that reeks, and not her. If it's because she didn't take a bath, she'll know it's her and that other people can smell it even if it's not that noticeable to her.
I work with a guy that's a health freak and goes home for lunch each day and purees garlic and drinks it raw. He comes in the office and stinks the place to high hell. It doesn't even smell like garlic, it's like this rancid rotting flesh smell. We've actually had staff meetings and confronted him about it, he just refuses to stop doing it, so we have to suffer (he's OCD too).

I remember in 7th grade gym class, this girl (won't say her name, but I haven't seen her since middle school, so it probably wouldn't matter much) had this fishy smell most of the time. I guess in gym with all of that physical activity going on, the smell would be more obvious. All of the girls noticed it, so some of them got together and mentioned it to the gym teacher. The teacher pulled her aside while some of the girls were watching and talked to her about hygiene. I felt kinda bad for her. I thought the teacher shouldn't have done it with a few girls watching....she should've talked to her in her office. I wouldn't know how to tell a person that to be honest. A person with bad breath would be a little easier to handle. looking for you in the woods tonight Switch FC SW-2874-2863-4789 (Rum&Coke)

It's interesting to note the different schools of thought regarding the addressing of this issue: being direct, and telling the young lady honestly but kindly that she has a noticeable body odour issue; vs. taking an indirect approach and feigning confusion - "What smells in here? Do you smell that?" - as to the origins of the offensive odour and hoping she takes the hint.
I'm wondering, is the differences in opinion about how to handle this situation rooted in trying to lessen the young lady's embarassment, or from wanting to avoid the awkwardness factor of communicating to the young lady the existence of the odour problem?

We had a teacher who addressed the whole class "Someone in here smells, I won't say who" but it made all of us question our own hygene--well, everyone except the person who stank, probably! My Legacy

i guess discuss it. that's the only way to determine if she knows she has a problem or not. nothing quite as condesending as telling someone they have a problem that they are already trying to deal with... but it is overwhelming. I probably couldn't be in a closed room with her, it's that bad. The thing is, she never used to smell this bad...it's only been in the last few months. Anyhow, thank you everyone for their advice. I guess I'll just take her aside and try to tell her in the nicest way possible.

He was like a cock who thought the sun had risen to hear him crow.

Has anyone else noticed that people who drink heavily tend to give off some bad body odor as well? I guess it has something to do with all the toxins in their system or something.
