do you pitch it or recycle?

it is just so de rigueur to recycle them here
on a 12 pack of cans we pay a $1.20 deposit!
it works because we have some crazy return rate of 97% or something.

what about beer bottles? plastic bottles? milk jugs?
is there a system set up that allows you to recycle?
i really like the system as it is set up here... it is expanding to include computer recycling too
but i am darn sure if there was no deposit paid and no easy system we wouldn't do it as much as we do

There's not a deposit here, and I wish there were. I remember buying glass returnable bottles of soda when I was a kid and I loved them. It was fun to bring them back and get money and buy candy.

No deposit system here.

I recycle everything except those tiny little yogurt containers that I get for my son.

Paper go in the black box and plastic, glass and cans go in the blue box. Very easy.

it's a great little money maker for scouts and guides and the like...
they blitz a neighborhood, fill up a truck and make a couple hundred dollars

Here in the SF Bay Area we recycle more than we throw away!

Amazingly when I go to different places in L.A. (the second biggest city in the US), they don't seem to have a recycling program. I was just in Beverly Hills and I had to throw away my beer bottles (right out the car window kidding!).

It's different for different places, though, I grew up in Malibu and we recycled.

We have to recycle. They pick up the cans and paper products on different days then the regular trash. I thought everywhere did that.

We don't recycle paper, but we do recycle bottles and cans. A guy comes around every week or so and buys them off us, along with any miscellaneous junk or broken electronics we may have. I take the ring pulls (or whatever they're called now) off the cans and save them for Sririrat hospital since they put them towards making artificial limbs.

I recycle.

ok... so i ask this because i've been to small town USA where there was no deposit paid and it seemed that all containers were just tossed.

I try to recycle soda cans but sometimes I actually forget and throw one or two away, because I haven't always been around recycling programs like there are where I live right now. Eventually it'll become habit. Same with milk jugs, etc.

The city I live in provides recycling containers. All you have to do is throw your stuff in a bin. The truck that comes around sorts it out and everything. We recycle pretty much everything that can be recycled, then we throw other stuff in there just in case it can be, too.
