i like the more matte looking finish on this slate and soap stone. the glass like finish isnt so attractive.

the slate , soap stone , and marble are much more high maintenance and will definately wear and age, which isnt always a bad thing.

but i think you should really chech out the silestone. its quartz. and much more praticle and also used in high end kitchens .

that nice flat edge will look perfect, it gives it a bit of a modern touch. Dont get a beveled edge, its too prissy. IMO

She's got kids and, you see, well, kids typically have these magnets in their heads...magnets that are drawn to any sharp edge.

But I agree that the flat edge is much nicer than the beveled edge.

usually the beveled edge sticks out futher or has alot of over hang and still has sharp edge to it on the underneath where a small one is likeley to hit thier head.

the flat edge is usually more flush with the cabinets themselves, thus not having much of a free edge for one to hit thier head on.

My sister has butcher block with tile around the sink. Looks great, but she hates the tile. She likes the wood, though, and it's very DIY & cheap.

We had tile growing up and my mom kept it clean, though.

Granite also has staining issues, I believe alcohol. It's really the way to go right now, I wonder if it's going to be really dated at some point.

My point above.

Usually something that trendy gets old quick.

Corian has to get cut for the sink just like granite, rite?

My parents had butcher block growing up.

I mite get butcher block in one section.

Yeah Corian has to be cut too. I think maybe it's more durable, or at least it doesn't chip or crack like granite. And it's no cheaper, really.

Granite may become dated, but maybe not. It's a natural thing, right? It's not like bell bottoms. But EVERYONE's getting it. It's hard to say.

I think wood would get nasty eventually, but my brother in law installed that himself & it's a fraction of the cost. It seems warmer & more homey than granite, too.

Damn, that's pretty. drool

I might like it better than concrete, which I loooove.

I wonder what the cost difference would be? Slate is expensive, isn't it?

Do you love how I'm asking like I have a house and it matters, when in fact I live in an apartment so small it barely HAS a kitchen?

I love this shit, though. lol
