It's the film itself that i'm talking about. the film wasn't nominated. either i'm not being so clear, or you're a die hard Streep fan what i meant is that i think an excellent performance within a mediocre film is such a waste, therefore winning an Oscar for it wouldn't really do it for me. If we're talking about something the level of People's Choice then it would be digestible, but the Oscars nah.

Didn't we all? The director's award was a lock, I wasn't so sure about winning for best picture. Perhaps. I thought Eastwood's movie was better though and he deserved it more this year. Scorsese should have won a long time ago for one of his other films.

As for Best Actor, i was really torn between Leo & Whittaker, both delivered incredible performances. On a side note, awww @ Leo tearing up during Whittaker's speech i dunno...i really though meryl had a chance, even though i didn't think her role in 'devil wears prada' was anything special. still, it was meryl streep, and meryl has a habit of winning awards. And Helen Mirren doesn't have a habit of winning awards? That would have been a major upset if Meryl won.

Thoroughly agreed! But Clint paged the Academy, telling them that he had no room for yet another Oscar..... The Departed isn't Marty's best, but it's Oscar-worthy.....his award was long overdue.....I liked his speech, he was clearly moved! I just wish he had gotten it 16 years ago for 'Goodfellas'..... I liked Iwo Jima, it is a gripping film, very well-made...and Clint is an awesome director. But I guess, these aren't the times for war-movies to win the best picture awards.....

Thats Anika Noni Rose, a Tony awar winner and a tough actress from the vicious broadway scene. She's a good singer buts its secondary 2 her acting talent considering that she's a broadway actress. She came from the same scene that gave birth to such talents like Phylicia Rashad, Alfre Woodrad, Angela Bassett and Sheryl Lee Ralph, which means she's practically the BADDEST of the trio(and mind I add the most youthful looking considering that she's older than ALL of them even though she played the youngest; 34 years old).

Am I the only one who could have sworn Ellen had hosted this before? She's so established, it just seems like they would have asked her by now. I was surprised to hear this was her first time hosting, I guess I was thinking of other award shows
From what I saw she did great but I missed the first 30min or so of the show

From what I saw she did great but I missed the first 30min or so of the show she did, okay...but her shtick of showing us behind the scenes crap and talking to the audience is tired. this is the one night for top notch glamour and she somehow turns the Oscar's into an extension of her own show. it just didn't feel right to me.. and it didn't help that they had fifty million montages and those momentum killing shadow dancer thingies...it was all way too much. if they had kept the montages to the sound orchestra, the foreign film tribute and the opening nominee thingie (which I thought was great) and the tribute to the two special oscars and thats it then maybe i wouldn't have minded Ellen's sillyness...but it was all just too long...and i started to get annoyed everytime she did something...i was about ready to throw my shoe at the screen when she walked out with that vaccum.
