Can anybody tell me what they did @ the top of the show? ABC must have broken up the time in a funky way b/c my Tivo cut off the top of the show.

Was it funny? Did she do a monologue? A taped skit?

And I saw Will Ferrell & 2 other guys singing - was that funny?

The beginning was a taped thing interviewing all of the nominees and then a monologue. It was cute

The only funny thing about Jack Black and Will Ferrel, was when they said Helen Mirren was hot. She does look good, to me

I love Helen Mirren. The thing is. I was watching the Barbara Walters special and I didn't realize that I've loved Helen for a really long time. She was in WHITE NIGHTS, THE COOK, THE WIFE, THE THIEF AND HER LOVER, CALIGULA. Oh my God.

She was also very good in SHADOWBOXER where she played Cuba Goodings lover.

this thread is nothing without a pic of sally kirkland. hmph!

and what a boring oscar telecast...once again too many damn montages...the rushing of the acceptance speeches really does kill spontaneity and makes for boring viewing. and while ellen did an okay job the producers of the show did all that they could do to kill any momentum with those horrid shadow dancers, silly skits and horrible placing of the best picture nominees...The Queen right after Martin Scorsese's Win? WTF?

other then that the show was okay...and the major wins expected...well, except for poor Murphy...he should shoot whoever decided to release Norbit right before the Oscars...he was on a roll (proof being the SAG win) yet Norbit gave folks the chance to remember everything that's wrong with Murphy's career. too bad cause his performance smoked Arkin's.

I agree with almost everything you've stated but the ballets were already cast long before Norbit was released.

Alan deserved the win.

Interesting, so the technical stuff is given out before the final tally??

I see what you are saying, but really I don't think Norbet hindered Murphy's chances.

I really don't think the people that voted in his category ran out to see it and made their decsion based on that

What's wrong with Norbit? I saw the behind the scenes on HBO and it looked like a cute comedy to me

i think nicole kidman looked like an android dominatrix. i didn't know whether to think she was hot or to be afraid of her lifelike futuristic technology.

i'm glad that Jennifer got her due. I mean she has come a long way, it's rare to win an Oscar after being nominated your first time....and she hasn't even won a grammy yet!!! I know it appeared that B was happy for her but on the inside I know she was confused .....c'mon now ya'll know its true.

i was also glad that Forest Whitaker won, haven't seen the movie yet, just clips, but i bet he was spectacular in his role.

Very glad that "The Departed" won for best picture, that movie was truly good, the best movie I saw in 2006 with the exception of "The Good Shepherd". nod
I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

Helen Mirren dress and Alan Arkin winning were the highlights of the night for me. I loved Ellen, too but the rest of the night was a freakin' snoozefest. How the hell did Pan's Labyrinth not win best foreign language film? bawl

oh, and i love - LOVE - catherine deneuve, but when she presented last night, her face reminded me of on conan o'brien, when they superimpose someone's lips on a photo of a famous person. auntie kathy needs to knock it off with the face lifts. it was scary.

Her face looked unreal and almost bizarre, both from work and weird make-up.

But I adored her dress and hair. I normally am not much for her. Something about it struck me last night. I belive I'm alone in this. lol

And CalhounSq and I have very dissimilar taste!! lol And that's all I'm gonna say about that.

I think she's been hitting the botox HARD.
I loved her dress too...I don't know why people were dissing it. She's one of very few who could pull off a dress like that one.
I also loved the gowns of: Beyonce, Penelope Cruz, Rachel Weisz, J-Lo, Reese Witherspoon, Kirsten Dunst and Tracey Edmond.
Did anyone else note all the green?!

I think Beyonce and Tina forced her to wear this crap so that she wouldn't outshine B. It's probably from their "House of ScareTheYoung" collection.

1. Can't believe Eddie didn't win. (heard he left shortly afterward. lol )

2. Jennifer Hudson is sliding from a favorite of mine to an annoyance. Why? That dress. That horrible acceptance speech. The unsophicated oversinging when she took the stage. She was trying to be diva but it was too much, much too much. Enough of her. She's beginning to irritate.

3. Surprisingly, between Jennifer Hudson and Beyonce, Beyonce was the understated one. eek . Now that's hard. Beyonce sang with poise and grace. She took the best line of Jennifer's song and made it amazing. She didn't try to out sing and out shout Jennifer and therefore had my attention even more. The way she carried herself was dignified ...whereas Jennifer ...no comment. (and no class sad )

4. Forrest Whitaker gave THE BEST Oscar acceptance speech of the evening.

5. So glad Melissa Etheridge won Best Song ... I just watched AN INCONVENIENT TRUTH Sunday afternoon and was blown away by how the song at the end of the movie made it even more powerful.
