This I have to agree with. I've had friends pour their hearts out to my girlfriend, but they are unable to do the same thing around me due to my ultra machoness. It really sets the tone for much of the interaction I have with folks.

I used to cry a lot when I was growing up.....not the happiest circumstances in history, to be certain.....but one of the first fights I got into, and won, was because someone called me out for crying about some shit on the schoolyard....
after that, the only things that have drawn tears are: Deaths in the fam, attending memorial services for fellow Soldiers who have died (very emotional services) and as I was watching Hurricane Katrina utterly destroy my hometown, reducing many of my hangouts and haunts to nothing.....that sucked!! Relationship wise, not likely to happen in the worst of it..... He was like a cock who thought the sun had risen to hear him crow.

When I was little yes, from all the whippings (I was a bad kid) later it was hard for me to cry, I'd tear up but that was about it, no hard down emptying out kind of crying until recently. Something finally hit the iron lady hard and deep enough to where I actually felt it which is something that’s not easily done.

Oh, lawd, I have no trouble crying. There are some people here who can attest to that.
I've had times in my life when I felt like I was constantly on the verge of tears, and then stretches when I wouldn't cry often. But I come from a long line of hanky-toting women. I think it's genetic. And I definitely think it's attractive when a man can cry and not be ashamed of it. It grabs my heart really really hard, though, when a guy starts crying. . . whoo, boy. . . I knew a guy (actually, he was an orger back in the day, but I don't know his orgname. . . you still here? Drop me a line and say hi. ) who had a head injury from falling off a bike and hadn't been able to cry since. I always thought that was a terribly sad thing. oh noes, prince is gonna soo me!!1!

Seeing your hometown damaged by Hurricane Katrina, did the popular idea that the Hurricane Katrina might be the vengeful hand of Allah intrude upon your rare soldiers' sentimental moment.
And if not, then why am I not suprised.

I know you DID NOT go there with me.....because if you did, then you would be HARD PRESSED to explain what the fuck the other 200,000 or so other residents of New Orleans had to do with MY RARE SOLDIER'S SENTIMENTAL MOMENT!!! Not to mention all the other residents of the gulf coast.... Most of the folks here know my position on this whole thing....if it makes you sleep better at night thinking that all of us who wear the uniform are heartless killers, then sleep well...I'm not going to sit here and argue semantics or religion or whatever with you....thats your business...but don't come at me with that bullshit.... I've never had 2 directly suffer at the hands of a soldier, I was just wonderin' if you'd won any medals, and at whose expense. Anyone who tries to interconnect the two has serious issues....because under that logic, how would one explain the other natural disasters that have occured around the world during the conduct of this war? I think that its just a convenient, albeit chickenshit, way of trying to voice opposition for what many consider to be an unjust war....if you want to protest the war, by all means....go for it...but be in possession of the facts...unlike many countires in the world, our military doesn't just wake up one day and decide to go to war...our government decides that....so discuss THEIR collective madness...but don't try to disparage the men and women who do, for the most part, a job that many do not have the constitution to undertake... as to my "winning" medals....its not a competition, complete with body counts...I've earned medals prior and subsequent to this war....I haven't killed anyone for them, if thats what you're really wondering...I work primarily in communications, but I know that I am a Soldier...and if I am faced with that situation, if it comes down to life or death, sorry, but I and those that I am responsible for will live...that is the nature of war...however you want to characterize the conduct of the war from the Iraqi perspective is, again, your business....but in the end, they are killing us too....and ironically, if you follow the news, the Iraqis are killing more Iraqis than we are... I didn't cry at the time,(later) but two weeks ago I took care of a four month old who was thrown by his father (crack cocaine and chrystal meth need to be eliminated from planet earth) The baby had a subarachnoid bleed and subdural hematoma and permanently brain damaged. Now living the rest of his life in state care.....mom was no where to be found for the diagnostic surgical procedure.

It's not hard for me to feel like crying/want to cry/start to cry... BUT I never really want to let myself cry for some reason. I'm constantly trying to collect myself instead of just letting it happen. I don't know why I do that - crying is perfectly normal @ times, but I try to choke it back

In these days of relative personal emancipation (both sides), is it still believed 2 b the case that Ladies cry more than Gents?
But it really is no wonder that people don't like to cry in public. It is afterall, among other things, perhaps, an obvious display of weakness. It'll usually attract a narrow range of various reactions, at a time when interaction often is'nt desired.

It'll usually attract a narrow range of various reactions, at a time when interaction often is'nt desired. Probably women cry more than men, it sometimes is a hormonal thing plus it's just more socially accepted for women to cry. I suppose some people perceive it as weakness but I don't. I think it's a healthy outlet for the emotions. I just feel vulnerable doing it around other people. And yeah, sometimes people's reactions are not what you need at the time. I think it's better that way, the moment is 4 action. Just imagine fellas walking out of a cinema, after having seen some cheap flick with donald duck, with big red swollen eyes and long faces! People this is not the way forward. I'm all 4 people expressing themselves and what is in their hearts, but there should alse be at times some reserve.
