There was nothing humorous about it, except that lame atkins comment at the end. I asked an honest question and got a phoney answer, which I guess is just another sign of your antisocial behaviour.

I didn't think your question about Lent was serious either.

it's like some jewish thing where you're atoning for your sins so you have to pick one of the food groups to quit eating for an extended amount of time. depending on what you cut out, some people call this lent or some people call it the atkins diet.

So if you're atoning for your sins should you then choose the food group you like the most, as to maximize your "cathartic suffering"? Or is it not about self-punishment at all? I never quite understood the concept for fasting in any religion. Body and soul are two different things, IMO. shrug

Actually alot of major religious figures supposedly started their religious teachings after moments of long fasting (Buddha for 40 days, Jesus for 40 days, Mohammad for what ever amount he had).

Buddhist monks don't eat after 12 PM noon so that when they sit down to meditate in the early evening, thier bodies will be, for the most part, done with digestion, a process which is believed in Buddhism to dull the mind. So the daily "fast" is believed to have beneficial effects on the mind as well as reinforcing a life of discipline.

As far as Lent, I have no clue what it's purpose is actually. It's kind of fun to hear some of my coworkers complain during the week about it. lol

so I don't care whether people think lent is Jewish or Catholic or that some people just don't know what it is (hah! giggle).....

I just got back from Brusssels, picking up my favourite wines, and have my stomach sstuffed with the excellent lunch I had in this awesome restaurant..... I had:

* 9 supreme oysters
* an order of awesome ham, 'Pata Negra'
* an awesome boeuf Filet Mignon.....

all with a bottle off Chablis, William Lefevre Premiere Cru 2004

it's been a good day..... nod

OK...Yes I am the world's worst Catholic, but I am one regardless of how long it would take me to finish a confession.....

Lent is the 40 day run up to the Crucifixion and Resurrection of Jesus...40 days of fasting, in which He faced the temptation and came to the knowledge that he was to be betrayed.....the Last Supper was the symbolic end of his fast, as that evening he was captured and the next day, crucified....on Easter Sunday he rose up....and the bunnies hid all the eggs for the little kids....

but back to me being the worst Catholic in the world....I still haven't decided what I'm giving up.....I could say sex, but thats a cop out because I'm deployed in Iraq.....whistling

Lent is a 40 day period that most catholics observe before easter. It always begins on ash wednesday and holy thursday. Which is why on Fridays we fast all day till sundown and don't eat meat. (I am a devout Catholic) We skip sundays because sundays commencerate with Christ Resurection so it doesn't count as part of the 40 days and nights. Lent began on February 21st and Ends on April 7th the day before easter.

Thanks for asking.!

This is actually one of the things that makes lent worth it, absorbing torment helps one learn about true sacrifice! lol
