It's over.

It's been an emotionally draining day. I was not riffed. But to make a long story short, I was called into three meetings with execs, my boss threatened to walk off the job, and 50% of my workforce are drunk right now. And none of our deliverables are going to given to the business on time.

Mods, please up my thread posting quota. Thanks.

Not really. The spirit of the place will be very dreary this year.

But it's a good thing I experienced today. I've been through 4 layoffs and have never been riffed. But this one has been very taxing on me emotionally. I've come to the realization, I need to start looking elsewhere and putting my Graduate degree to real use. But I told myself I want my next job to be worth something--to do some good. I still don't know what that is.

At least now I know what my options ARE if I get laid off. shrug

Be good to yourself tonight. Your body's gone through a lot with all of this stress and adrenaline and whatnot. Drink lots of water and maybe a stiff drink.

i think if you have marketable skills and have a fairly good chance of getting re-hired somewhere else, getting laid off is kind of a godsend. don't you get unemployment? chill out for a while! then when you're good and ready, start interviewing again, and work the lay-off angle for all the pity you can get.

i've been in the work force over 20 years and i've been unwillingly unemployed for a combined total of maybe 5 weeks. lay me off. do it. i need the downtime.
