Manufactured music. Right or Wrong? Throughout the 90's and into 00's the UK had a mass influx of manufactured music, mostly boybands and girlbands ( ie The Spice Girls ) and real music was put on the back burner.
Do you agree with the exploitation of these "so called bands" U will look like this, sing like this and dance like (Take) that and I (the producers and record company big wigs) will take all the money OR should the likes of SIMON COWELL ,responsible for pop idol, be shot . I really don't see what the big deal is.

I'm guessing that the beef is that some "artists" are not also the musician, or songwriter or producer. Sorry to break it to you, but that's been going on since the beginning of pop music. It's certainly not new.

Now, I'm not saying every record company is completely scrupulous and gives artists the proper credit they deserve, but pop music is also a business, after all. Sometimes you have one person writing, one producing, one singing, studio musicians, etc. They all contribute to a product and that product is pop music. Sometimes it's glorious, sometimes it's crap. |

music is music. it is not my place to say what is hot and whts not. Certainly the masses have been spoon fed produced pop puppets for some time now but thats only because people keep buying it. so, i guess some people must like that kinda stuff and once again who's place is it to say what somebody else should and should not like. music to suit everybodies taste is, has and always will be availible for them to consume - the quest is finding it and i guess that goes hand in hand with how much u want it.

It's worse here in the US IMO. At least in the UK, artistic folks like Bjork actually get radio play.
"Manufactured music" has been around for a very long time. It's basically someone writing and creating the music and giving it to someone else to sing. That someone else has a manager who is most likely the brains behind the whole outfit. Most "pop" music back in the day was mostly this type of music. But back then music was different. It was certainly harder to create and record. One didn't have the thought of a song one day and a finished product the next. And you also had MANY songs coming out from very few sources. Usually the sources were quite talented and actually played music. That said, it still took, a good voice and a good look to sell an album or band. Today, part of that still holds true (though I find singers from the past to have much better and more unique voices). The big difference is in the quality of music. There isn't a lot of it out there. Almost anyone these days can make music using the current technology of what's out there. And it's all done solely for the purpose of making money and being part of the machine. There isn't any thought or "soul" put into the music like it was. Sure, even back in the day, one could say it was like that too. But there was integrity behind the music and the marketing wasn't so blatently skewed toward being the BEST NEWEST and FRESHEST. There seemed to be a realness and tangibility to the music that doesn't exist today. Christian Zombie Vampires
