What was your luckiest moment?

And I don't mean luck as in "oh when I gave birth to my child was the luckiest moment of my life" or luck that comes out of being well prepared, I mean completely blind and undeserved luck where something good just drops in your lap all of a sudden? Maybe you won the lottery? Or maybe you happened to bump into a casting agent looking for exactly your type as the star of his next movie? Tell me your story.

I was assigned in tech school to Scott AFB in the midwest. I just so happened to be sitting next to a guy that I NEVER talked to who was totally bummed out because he was being stationed in Germany. I spoke to him and found out that we were within 2 weeks of the same graduating class which made us eligeable to swap assignments.

We went to the admin office on Keesler AFB and swapped assignments 15 minutes later, and I was on my way to Germany. I have never regretted that decision. Besting thing to happen to me ever.

I got a parking space at the front of school the other day! eyepop

I think my luck is of the calculated kind normally, it is rare for serendipity to fall into my lap unexpectedly.

Congratulations! If getting fired has to happen, it sounds like perfect timing at least.

Why did you get fired? What is the new job?

The second time my friends and I went skydiving, the string for my chute got stuck. My tandem had to use our backup chute and it took a devastatingly long time to properly unfold. I deliberately went again the next day to shake my fear so it wouldn't ruin my chances in the future to get back in the plane. I guess we was lucky that day, in a way. It could have been both.
Oh shit, my hat done fell off

I agree.

Although I haven't gotten to the point where I've cross the line of creepiness into actually meeting other orgers, it's time is fast approaching.

The doors this will open amaze me. Being able to travel anywhere practically and have a place to crash, conversations to have, friends to make, and places to see and SHARE with others. This to me, is incredible.

We should really start a business model around this.

An art gallery eh? Sweet! I think it'll suit you perfectly. Might even make you overcome your shyness. wink

You still didn't say why you were fired though? Was it a tomato fight of the kind that got Dani fired twice? lol

Seriously,

If we started our own website and charged "membership" fees, it would be a successful business model me things. Imagine being able to travel around the world, crash anywhere and practically have a free guide.

I've thought about this before too. lol

But I like to think it's not the kind of thing you can manufacture. I like that it's worked so organically.

I'm still surprised that Ben hasn't taken the opportunity to earn a few bucks off it, at least enough to cover the bandwidth costs. The org is like Melissa once called it a "combination of a dictatorship and anarchy" and it seems the dictator is losing interest fast. I honestly don't know why he still keeps this website since it doesn't seem to add anything to his life.

falloff It would fail... I am asked a lot if I think that this could be done again on the net. I always answer simply NO!
I am sure somewhere out there in net land it is occurring but the elements that brought us all together aren't common. I for one would never put the time into a joint that I put into this one in the earlier years to establish that communication level. ( Unless life had some turn of events out of my control)
Anyway, I do not think it is feasible to assume it would happen again. Hence forth wonderful luck or blessing as I see it.

A lot of assuming. For one, this was his baby and look at what he has created and how it continues to fruit and blossom in different directions. It is a success and he put so much into initially. Granted he has gone on to have a baby and to other personal endeavors but what a gift to leave it alive for us.... limping and all... and a credit to his original dream project.

Yeah, well it's very nice and all that he still lets us play with it, but I think he should get something concrete out of it too other than just the pleasure of knowing it exists, don't you think? A few banners that could give him a few well-earned dollars wouldn't be too much to ask. Or if there's any way to make it more fun for him to participate in it, he'd be welcome to make those changes. Credit where credit is due is all I'm saying.

To that end I certainly agree.... He is more then entitled... He actually did the banner thing for 8 seconds yearsssss back.....

If he wants me to paypal him a donation I would be more then honored to do so...

I suspect the issue becomes if it is a site we "pay " for then folks would start feeling like they have "earned" the right to shoot off their mouth around here about things. rolleyes God knows they run their mouths about all manner of things whilst it is FREE...

boxed Just a hunch and my opinion. As I recall the concept was knocked around for 8 seconds years ago
