Is that what she looks like now or was that when she was still fresh and steaming? What a precious little baby! It sounds like her mom had been stuggling with fertility issues (it says the baby was conceived in vitro). I'm so glad that they are able to bring this baby home, and not suffer a devestating loss.

I find it very interesting that they only show you a picture of when she was pulled out of the womb, because really she wasn't even born, but they don't show you her progress now. Why aren't they showing how well she's developed and how well she's come along? That shot was used for propaganda..... 2010: Healing the Wounds of the Past.... http://prince.org/msg/8/325740

Can I ask you an honest question? I do not discount someone's will and drive to see that baby make it. It is certainly an amazing and wonderful story. However, do you have the ability to pay for that kind of treatment and would you have the ability to pay for future care even if it was for the rest of her life? Why is it wrong to even ask this question or consider the ramifications? 2010: Healing the Wounds of the Past.... http://prince.org/msg/8/325740

I know there are some people who make it work. I know a family who has adopted 10 special needs kids, with varying levels of disability. My mom found out that they were getting government assistance to cover their medical costs. Finanaces aside, I would do anything to save my child's life, and I wouldn't be thinking clearly enough to ponder the ramifications. That's all Supa! Wanna hear me sing? www.ChampagneHoneybee.com

ok you guys...
stop beating supa up he hopes the baby is healthy just like anyone else discussion over what is medically ethical is never wrong... it's discussion. there are so many risks that preemie babies face. there has been lots of discussion before between doing what you can and doing what is right 21 weeks just seems too soon, too risky. the notion that they wouldn't have delivered this baby had they known she was 21 weeks just makes me angry... this is her future and quality of life that is at stake... not whether the doctors can add "delivered 21 week gestation baby" on their resume.

[Edited 2/22/07 12:46pm] Sorry Supa, I'm not really the one to ask because I do not have any children yet. There are a lot of people who have a special needs child as well as children who are not. A friend of a friend of mine has a son who is autistic. He is about 7 years old. He needs to be on a strict schedule, and reqires a lot of supervision. They also have a son who is 2 years old. Both children are happy, loved, and taken care of. Obviously, their parents have had to rearrange their lives to make this work (mom quit her job to stay at home), but the point is that they ARE making it work. Sometimes life throws you a curveball, but you do your best to catch it. Parenting is riddled with compromise and sacrifice, and some children require you to give more of yourself. Despite the difficulties and challenges, even the most handicapped children can bring great joy to those around them. I have a real heart for special needs kids, and I want a job that will allow me to work with them one day. Wanna hear me sing? www.ChampagneHoneybee.com

My point, is that in this country we do not foster and care for life to make it easier for parents to care for special needs or extreme health cases. We simply don't. Therefore I really believe if someone does not want the burden, because we aren't talking simple responsibility, we are talking burden, then they should have choices in front of them and until such time as that is the case in this country, I will only support a person's ability to make that choice. 2010: Healing the Wounds of the Past.... http://prince.org/msg/8/325740

I stopped when I saw that there is no increase with prestige whatsoever with such a statement. Ah well, you live & learn, I guess.

I do understand what you're saying, Supa. Yes, for a lot of people, caring for a severely disabled child would mean entering financial hell. I'm being completely serious when I say that I wish I were rich, so that I could help families like this. I don't think anyone should ever have to choose between money and their children.
For me, I would choose my children, because in the end, what's more important? [Edited 2/22/07 14:01pm] Wanna hear me sing? www.ChampagneHoneybee.com
