I'm probably way off, but here goes:

The man is the 2nd (now dead) sister's father but not her own.
Once the mother was deceased and she met the father(not hers) and fell in love, she knew the 2nd sister would never allow it, so she killed her.

She was playing on a funeral fantasy. Funerals became associated with her happiness at finding her "true love" and she facilitated another one.

There would be fantasy about the man and she would associate her love for the man with the funeral... she would probably attend random funerals and would eventually escalate to murder to make the funerals more personal.

The murders would possibly start with family or friends,due to proximity and familiarity. They would most likely be poisoned, due to her being female and the fact that the crimes themselves were not born of sexual rage.
