I absolutely loved this movie. It was very intense and that part was unexpected but I dug it anyway.

i had to turn away from the screen a few times. i'm bad with realistic gore, i can't deal with it very well. but in its own sad way, i thought it was an optimistic movie.

I hated, absolutely hated the ending. And parts of it were sooooo aesthetically awful, just plain disgusting, that I simply couldn't watch. I'm turning pollyanna in my old age, but I don't like paying money to feel like shit after and hour an a half and call that entertainment. That said, I can still agree it's a good movie. There are parts I found simply gorgeous as well. I think it's just not for me. I have to go against you. What you call 'aesthetically awful', to me is the heart of the movie. The realism is what drives the fantasy.

A few themes I saw in the movie:
It's about resistance to fascism or any kind of oppression. You can do it through your words, actions, and imagination. Ofelia, Mercedes, and the Doctor expressed their resistance, each using one of these forms. It's an optimistic movie just like my boo, Anx, said. Look, in the story of Christ, he was tortured, nailed to a cross, and had a speer punctured in him to kill him. But that story is about hope. I thought Pans Labyrinth was brilliant.

I guess if you're going to tell me a fairy tale, then let it be a fairy tale. Don't give me reality at the end. I don't want it anymore. You've let me escape all along, why the hell would you bring me back? I found it horribly depressing and, again, just plain yucky. I don't know what's wrong with me. By all accounts I really should have loved this movie and for some reason it really pissed me off. |

How sad of a story is it when we're happy that a little girl dies at the end to rid her of her suffering?? Mean, horrible, sad movie. |
