Getting A Jump On Spring Cleaning: Anxy's Challenge for the Week! Okay, it's like this.
While the weather is still cold and dark and skanky (or moist and clammy, for all you people who live in warm climates), I think it's a perfect time to get a jump on spring cleaning. Here's my challenge for the week: Get a bag. Trash bag. Grocery bag. Whatever Find TEN THINGS in your home to THROW OUT. It could be ten things in your closet you can give to charity. It could be ten ripped up, yellowing, nasty looking papers that have been cluttering up your refrigerator or bulletin board. It could be ten books you KNOW you'll never read again, or ten CDs you can sell to the wrecka stow in exchange for something you might actually listen to now and then. Or whatever. And I'm not talking about plain ol' garbage you'd throw away anyway. I'm talking about stuff that sits around your house and gets on your nerves. And it can't be alive, either. OH - and let us know what you threw out! Thank you, that is all. Anx PS - If anyone wants to sex up this thread with racy pics of themselves, go right ahead. It needs all the help it can get, and it's too late for shame now anyway.

I have the same plans too. Do my spring cleaning and throw out stuff and donate stuff to charities.

i'm lucky - i have a charity shop, a used bookstore and a couple of used record stores all within a few blocks in my neighborhood...a few times a year, i fill up as many grocery bags as i can with unwanted stuff, then go on a donating and selling spree. it's very liberating.

already done. i'm always doing that. i have an aversion toward owning too much stuff; for whatever reason it makes me antsy if my space is cluttered. i'm always recycling stuff to thrift stores.
anyway this morning i weeded out my filing cabinet and shredded my old tax records from 1991 to 1999. don't know why but i feel better

That is what I am doing today...I just moved in here in Sept but I brought a few things I did not needs- well as far as clothes go. I did not take the time to sort them before I moved out. So- I am sorting it out now so I can give to the local homeless runaway teen shelter.

I've been getting rid of one item per day for about 4 months now. It's a very good thing. My place is becoming much more pleasant. And yeah, it helps that I have used any/everything stores within a few blocks. oh noes, prince is gonna soo me!!1!

I started doing this about a week ago and gave away 4 sweaters and 2 Looney Tunes tee-shirts. A few months ago I gave away bags full of clothes and household items to charity. I'm sure I'll be giving more away very soon.

I have been shreadding stuff for two days now and I still have not made a huge dent. But, it is very therapeutic. I'm learning to let go and God knows I am such a procrastinator and packrat. I haven't felt this good in so long.

when i see those big gaps of space in my closet and my bookshelves, it feels AWESOME...of course, i have boxes of other crap i can fill those gaps in with ASAP, most of which i'll probably end up throwing out next year.

I start my spring cleaning January 1 every year, so I kind of have a head start but here's what I threw out:
1) 5 pair of pants (Gave to charity) 2) 12 shirts (Gave to charity) 3) Every white and black sock I own (I replaced them all with the same white socks and same black sock types--that way I never mismatch). 4) 12 books (donated to Public Library) 5) Olympus Camera (it was the one I dropped in the River last year during a canoe trip--useless). 6) about 40 software titles (That are now outdated) 7) old porn magazines (I now have zero) 8) a bunch of carboard boxes that contained things I bought last year (music keyboard, mini-vac, etc.) 9) an area rug that was skanky and not worth donating 10) an office chair that I replaced 12) an old incense burner 13) an old lamp that doesn't work 14) a pair of panties and bra (not mine you idiots! ) 15) old underwear 16) a jacket that had paint on it--not worth donating 17) A bunch of CD cases to CDs that were scratched or have already been transfered to mp3 format. 18) old paperwork no longer needed 19) non pornographic magazines 20) cups and glasses that don't match the ones I like or just look ugly.
