Our Transgender City Manager has been FIRED - Post your Comments on the newspaper .
http://www.sptimes.com/20...ote_.shtml Stanton revealed that he was a trangender man in the process of becoming a woman last week after the St. Petersburg times outed him. The ramifications of this is that our city councel voted yesterday to fire him. You can leave your comments on the St. Petersburg times at the bottom of the article above. I don't care if he is gay, straight, transgender, or a housequake member - people should not be fired for pursuing what they consider to be their true selves. It sends a truly sad message about Tampabay when this can happen. I mean, I'm ashamed we gave America Rhonda Storms, but this is truly sad. We could have been a progressive pioneering city--now we're just acting like the ignorant bastards that we are portrayed as being.

He's on paid administrative leave right now, they still need to meet on the firing thing. From what I understand, if they do fire him, he can't do anything about it.
I'm unhappy at whatever friend was confided in and then ran and blabbed his mouth. That's some shitty move right there.

I mean, this is embarrassing. This will be on national news soon and human rights organizations are going to brand us.

Oh, it's def. going national, and we will of course look like a bunch of uncaring fucks. Florida is sometimes too dumb to get out of its own way. The sad part is the guy has done such a good job as city manager, he's been there for 14 years, and now his "colleagues" say they question his decision making. What does this have to do with his professional decision making process??? Trust me, I'm as skeptical as they come when it comes to topics like this, but I sure as hell don't believe in treating people like they are lepers.

Fry him well, I agree with that, but I'm just saying, for the judge to allow that shit, it again just speaks VOLUMES about this retarded state we call home.

And yes, in florida it probably is. unfortunately, there is no federal sexual orientation employment discrimination law, and only 17 states have private employment laws, and only 6 have public employment laws... florda is not in either category. it's ridiculous. Anyways, The US sucks ass when it comes to equal rights. Human rights, we're fair to midland (compared to some other really gross violators of human rights), but when it comes to "equal rights" we suck ass. My beef isn't a political beef. It's one about respect and decency. Why fire this man for being himself? This is embarassing!

They should have kept him on board, then they could have paid him less when he became a woman.

ya that sucks. I mean firing someone on the basis of their sexual orientation is not on.
it's a pretty serious issue for alot of ppl and it's prolly ruining lives cuz of this ignorance.
