Why would a man hold eye contact with a woman during a conversation for more than an average eye contact holding time? Are men quick to assume that a woman is interested in him?

Maybe he's read some article that says an eye contact extending to over four seconds of time means there is a mutual sexual attraction between the participants. It's completely natural to shun away after few seconds, so for some it could be a test. In fact, yes, it's often a pretty clear giveaway if the other person constantly does it with you.
