So long TRL !!!!!!!!!!

To be honest..I thought this show was already off the air...I was wrong...but after 9 years...looks like the once-redhot countdown show is dunzo!

.....

Total Request Live, the MTV video show which launched Carson Daly into our lives and which defined, or at least stood in for, a certain element of American pop culture for many years, has reportedly been canceled. Jossip broke the news. This is the latest event in a downsizing-full week at MTV, during which the company laid off 5.5% of its staff, in order to retool itself for the digital age. (Note that this week MTV also announced a YouTube hedging video-sharing initiative.)

Gawker has more rumors of specific departments and network-lets being cleaned out across the board. The gist: they're crystallizing their overall programming trend of the past few years. Fewer music videos, more teen and young adult-aimed reality, clip and magazine shows.

I also heard MTV let go of 250 employees this month.

This show singlehandedly dumbed down the American youth to the level where kids today are astonished to learn that once upon a time, there was no such thing as "emo."

It will NOT be missed.

MTV killed the soul of rock-n-roll and I can't say enough unkind things about it. With the exception of Tom Green, nothing good has come out of MTV in more than a decade.

Bring back Martha Quinn!!!!!

I think it is. That show should get the boot too. BET sucks they really dont have original programming. I'll tune in to College Hill if they're not screaming the whole episode

Yes it is. Robert Johnson sold it to Viacom in 2001. It's gone to hell in a handbasket ever since.

They might as well. MTV isn't even MTV anymore. How can they call themselves a music channel when they hardly ever play videos or have programs that are music related? I look forward to the demise of MTV and I mean that. It needs to go. And for TRL, I'm glad it's going. It'll be one less burden to deal with while walking down Times Square. lol
